🐾 Everyone, welcome Mavis to Shepherd’s K-9! 🐾

Mavis is here for our 5-week on & off-leash training course, and he is already showing us just how eager he is to learn and work! 🤩

Here’s a little sneak peek of Day 1 of training! 🎥

In this clip, you’ll see me working on something that may look simple but is SO important when building a solid foundation!

Right now, I’m simply calling his name and rewarding him for giving me eye contact. This teaches him that his name has value and that paying attention to me is rewarding! Rather than focusing on the treat in my hand or everything else going on around him, I want him to learn that engaging with me is where the reward comes from.

It may not look like much, but these small steps are what build the foundation for bigger things down the road! 🐶❤️

As a small business owner, one thing I will ALWAYS take pride in is providing a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for my clients and their pups! 🐾❤️

And that doesn’t just mean keeping things looking nice on the outside. What goes on behind the scenes is just as important!

Every weekend, I make it a priority to thoroughly sweep, mop, and clean every single kennel, even the ones that haven’t had a dog in them that week!

Why? Because even just ONE dog can track in a surprising amount of dirt, dust, and grime that makes its way into the surrounding kennels. 🧹🐶

It might seem like a small thing, but to me, it’s the little things that make a BIG difference!

When you trust me with your pups, you’re trusting me with a member of your family. And I want you to know that their cleanliness, comfort, and well-being are always a priority, even when nobody is watching. ❤️🐾

🐾 Not all training sessions look the same, and that’s OKAY! ❤️

Sometimes training isn’t about perfect obedience, fancy commands, or how much you can accomplish in one outing. Sometimes it’s as simple as asking your dog to lay down, stay, and just take in the world around them.

Today, Athelia and I took a trip to the store! While we may not have walked every aisle or practiced a bunch of commands, we still had a VERY productive session!

Our biggest accomplishment? Simply laying by the entrance and watching people come and go. 🐶

For Athelia, all the people, noises, and movement were already extremely overstimulating. So instead of pushing her past what she was comfortable with, we worked on staying calm, observing her surroundings, and building confidence.

And guess what? That was MORE than enough for today! ❤️

Training isn’t always about how much you get done. It’s about recognizing what YOUR dog needs, meeting them where they’re at, and celebrating the little victories.

Sometimes the smallest steps are actually the BIGGEST accomplishments! 🐾❤️

This girl just arrived for her 5-week on & off-leash training journey, and she’s already showing us that she’s ready to WORK! 🐾💪🏼

Athelia has officially been with us for one week, and she is thriving. She’s settling into her new routine beautifully, making great progress, and is already ahead of schedule! 👏🏼

I’m so excited to watch this girl grow, learn, and gain confidence throughout her time with us. I have a feeling she’s going to surprise us with just how far she can go! 🥰

Alright, y’all… time for a little honesty. 😂

As a small business owner — and the owner, trainer, receptionist, bookkeeper, and pretty much everything else at Shepherd’s K-9 😂 — I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes I can get stuck in my ways.

I’m always trying to learn, grow, and find ways to make Shepherd’s K-9 better for both my customers and their dogs. With that being said, I’d genuinely love to hear from anyone who has trained with me, talked with me, or had any kind of experience with my business!

What did you like? What could I do better? Is there something you wish I offered or did differently? Is there anything you think would make the overall experience better?

Being a one-man show, I don’t always have someone around to give me that outside perspective, and sometimes it’s hard to see things from the customer’s point of view. That’s where y’all come in!

So don’t be shy! Good, bad, or somewhere in between, I want to hear it! 😂 I genuinely appreciate honest feedback and want to use it to continue improving and providing the best experience I can for both you and your pups. 🐶

At the end of the day, I love what I do, and I want Shepherd’s K-9 to continue growing and getting better. I know there’s always room for improvement, and I’m more than willing to listen!

This is such a great example of something I tell my clients all the time! Yes, saying “okay” would probably be SO much easier than remembering to use a specific release word, but we say “okay” so often in everyday conversation.

At the end of the day, our dogs only know what we teach them. They don’t automatically understand the difference between us talking to someone, saying something casually, or actually giving them permission to move.

That’s why having clear, consistent commands and release words is so important! 🐶❤️ It might seem like a small detail, but those little things make a HUGE difference in training!

We’re moving… AGAIN!! 🎉🐾

With that being said, we are currently only accepting 3-week Board & Trains and in-home training sessions ☺️

We are so excited for this move and what it means for the future—giving us the opportunity to continue growing our facility and serve our amazing pups and clients even better. 🐶❤️
