🎯🐾 Bluey Takes on the target Training Dome!

Bluey is learning to target the Training Dome with his front paws using clicker training, positive reinforcement, and fear-free methods. 💙🐕

The Training Dome helps build body awareness, coordination, confidence, focus, and rear-end awareness. It also creates a foundation for skills like heel positioning, pivots, turns, and loose-leash walking.

🔘 The clicker marks the exact moment Bluey gets it right, helping him clearly understand which behavior earned the reward.

Instead of physically putting Bluey into position, we let him think, problem-solve, and voluntarily make the right choice. 🧠🎯

Training should feel like a game—not something a dog has to fear. 💙🐾

🎯🐕 Teaching HEEL with Target Training

Heel isn’t just about teaching a dog to walk next to you — first, they need to understand where heel position actually is!

In this training session, I’m using target training to help the dog learn where to place their body in relation to me. Breaking the behavior down into smaller, achievable steps helps create a clearer picture for the dog and builds a strong foundation before adding more movement and distractions.

🐾 Meet Charlie! 🐾

I’m excited to officially introduce Charlie and his owner, Angela, to the Kierra’s K9 Training family! 💙

Charlie and I have started working together using science-based, positive reinforcement training to help him build confidence and learn skills that will carry over into everyday life.

Our training will include working on focus and engagement, leash skills, confidence, calm behavior around distractions, and real-world training in different environments. We’ll work at Charlie’s pace, using rewards and positive experiences to help him understand what we’re asking of him.

One of my favorite parts of dog training is figuring out the “why” behind a dog’s behavior instead of simply trying to stop the behavior. When we understand what the dog is communicating, we can create a training plan that helps both the dog and their owner succeed. 🧠🐾

I’m looking forward to sharing more of Charlie’s training journey and progress along the way!

🐾 Down vs. Off: Understanding the Difference

“Down” and “off” are two different cues!

⬇️ Down means asking your dog to lie down.

🐕 Off means removing their paws or body from a person, piece of furniture, or another surface.

Using each cue consistently helps your dog understand exactly what you’re asking. Clear communication, patience, and positive reinforcement make learning easier and more enjoyable for both you and your dog!

🐾 YOUR DOG’S BRAIN IS MORE LIKE YOURS THAN YOU THINK 🧠

Dogs and humans share many of the same brain chemicals.

💕 Oxytocin — bonding, love, and connection
😊 Serotonin — mood and emotional regulation
✨ Dopamine — motivation, rewards, and learning
😟 Cortisol — stress, anxiety, fear, panic, and feeling overwhelmed
⚡ Adrenaline — excitement, panic attacks, and the fight-or-flight response
🐕 Endorphins — happiness, comfort, play, and feeling good

Understanding dog psychology means looking beyond the behavior.

Instead of only asking:

“Why isn’t my dog listening?”

We should also ask:

“What is my dog feeling?”
“What is my dog communicating?”
“Is my dog stressed, anxious, afraid, excited, or overwhelmed?”

Dogs are not humans, but their brains share many of the same chemicals involved in emotions, bonding, stress, motivation, and learning.

When we understand the brain behind the behavior, we can train with more compassion, build trust, and create a stronger bond. 🧠🐾❤️
