A little Monday reflection from LHS Equine 💜

Over the years, our program has been built around one belief: a strong foundation changes everything.

From developing young riders, to bringing along off-track Thoroughbreds and Mustangs, to preparing horses and riders for their next goals — we believe in taking the time to do things correctly. No shortcuts. No rushing. Just thoughtful training that builds confidence, communication, and partnership.

One of the most rewarding parts of our program is watching the transformation happen — whether it’s a rider finding confidence in the saddle, a horse learning a new skill, or a once-unhandled Mustang stepping into the show ring.

Recently, one of our Mustang partners completed her first 3ft showjumping course — a milestone that represents months of patience, trust, and consistent development.

These moments are why we do what we do.

At LHS Equine, we’re proud to work with a growing community of riders and horses here in Virginia — helping each partnership reach their next level through thoughtful training and a strong foundation.

The walk back to the barn is often one of the most overlooked parts of a ride.

It may look like a simple cool-down, but a purposeful walk is an important piece of developing a strong, balanced, and relaxed horse.

This is where we allow the horse time to:

• decompress mentally after the work
• maintain relaxation through the topline
• encourage correct movement patterns
• recover while still building body awareness

The foundation matters.

Whether the goal is dressage, show jumping, or eventing, the same principles apply: a horse that can relax, use their body correctly, and stay strong is a horse that can continue progressing.

At LHS Equine, we believe the small details are what create long-term results.

The walk back to the barn is not just the end of the ride—it’s part of the process. 💜

What does your horse’s favorite part of the ride look like—the work itself, or the walk home?

A horse’s behavior is often a conversation — we just have to learn how to listen. 🐴

This horse came to us with challenges that went beyond training. After identifying underlying issues, including kissing spine, we developed a rehabilitation training program focused on rebuilding confidence, comfort, and correct movement while working alongside his veterinarian and farrier.

One of the tools we’ve found incredibly valuable in this process is ground driving. Using a surcingle and two long reins allows us to develop balance, body awareness, relaxation, and correct responses without the added weight of a rider. It helps create a stronger foundation for future work under saddle while allowing the horse to understand the questions clearly.

At LHS Equine, we believe in developing the whole horse through thoughtful training, correct biomechanics, and a dressage-based approach. Every horse deserves to be understood, not just managed.

Virginia, we’re here! 💜🐴✨

After months of planning, preparation, and transition from our original Florida facility, LHS Equine is proud to officially bring our program to Virginia and open our doors at Westwood Farms in Locust Dale. The beginning of this new chapter has been focused on settling our horses, continuing their development, competing, and creating a program where horses and riders can truly thrive.

LHS Equine was built around one belief: every horse and rider deserves thoughtful training, a strong foundation, and the opportunity to reach their full potential.

We are incredibly grateful to Westwood Farms for welcoming us and providing a wonderful home for LHS Equine. With a beautiful barn, indoor arena access, a lighted outdoor arena, and approximately 400 acres with beautufully maintained trails, this property provides an exceptional environment for horses, riders, and families.

One of the highlights of our Virginia journey was participating in Fourth of July events at Mount Vernon, where LHS Equine had the honor of helping bring horses into a historic setting and sharing an equestrian experience with the public. It was a memorable opportunity that showcased the versatility, resilience, and connection horses bring into our lives.

At LHS Equine, we welcome riders of all levels—from beginners taking their first steps in the saddle to advanced riders pursuing their goals.

Our specialty and passion is developing confident horse-and-rider partnerships through Eventing and Show Jumping, built on a strong dressage-based foundation of correct training, balance, and communication. We also offer select leases, sales, and training opportunities through our program.

We are excited to become part of the Virginia equestrian community and welcome new riders, families, and horse owners to LHS Equine.
