Being a large animal veterinarian is not always sunshine and rainbows. It’s long days, sleepless nights, missed dinners, canceled plans, and being pulled away from our families at a moment’s notice because an animal needs us. It’s physically exhausting, emotionally draining, and at times incredibly trying.
People often see the beautiful horses, the ranch calls, and the rewarding moments — but they don’t always see the sacrifices behind the scenes. The stress, the responsibility, the heartbreak, and the constant demand that comes with being on call.
But then there are moments like this. Moments where there’s a happy ending. A recovery. A second chance. A grateful owner. And suddenly, all the exhaustion fades just enough to remind us why we chose this life in the first place.
These moments bring gratitude. They remind us that despite the hard days, we are incredibly fortunate to do what we do. ❤️
