📅 Schedule:
Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

🐶 What We’re Looking For:

Someone who genuinely loves dogs and wants to learn
A dependable, hardworking individual with a strong work ethic
Someone willing to learn our training methods and follow established protocols
A confident, patient handler who is comfortable working with dogs of different sizes, breeds, and temperaments
Previous dog training experience is a PLUS, but it is not required!

🎓 No Experience? No Problem!

At Gray’s K-9 Academy, we provide the training you need to learn our methods and develop the skills necessary to work as a dog trainer. We’re looking for the right person with the right attitude, dedication, and willingness to learn.

This is an opportunity to build valuable hands-on experience in obedience, behavior modification, and professional dog handling while working alongside an established dog training business.

When the trainer says “DOWN” and you know they’re actually going to make you follow through… 😒😝

Dog: “FINE. I’m down. But I don’t have to be happy about it.” 😂

The command was completed. ✅
The attitude was FREE. 🤣🐾

Around here, we don’t argue with the backtalk… we just make sure you finish what you were asked to do. 😎

Because apparently you can have obedience AND opinions. 😂

🐕 REDIRECTION vs. CORRECTION — DO YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE? 👀

One teaches your dog WHAT TO DO. The other teaches your dog what behavior is NOT acceptable. Both have a place in training! 💯

🐾 REDIRECTION:
Your dog jumps on guests, and you guide them into a sit instead. You’re teaching an alternative behavior.

🐾 CORRECTION:
Your dog knows the place command but repeatedly breaks the boundary. You address the unwanted behavior and follow through with the expectation.

Here’s where people get it wrong… 👇

❌ Redirecting every behavior without setting boundaries can leave a dog without clear expectations.

❌ Correcting a dog for something it doesn’t understand isn’t fair training.

✅ GOOD TRAINING REQUIRES BOTH CLEAR COMMUNICATION AND CONSISTENCY.

At Gray’s K-9 Academy, we believe dogs need to understand BOTH sides of communication: what we want them to do and what behaviors aren’t acceptable.

It’s not about being mean to your dog. It’s about providing structure, clear expectations, and the guidance they need to succeed.

The goal isn’t to change your dog’s personality. It’s to change the behavior while building confidence, reliability, and a better relationship with you. 🐾

DON’T GIVE UP AFTER 3 TRIES. 👏🐕

When this guy first came in, he was a little unsure about the cot for his PLACE command.

And honestly? This is where a lot of people would quit.

“He doesn’t like it.”
“He’s scared of it.”
“He’s just not going to do it.”

❌ Nope.

Instead, we worked through it.

We didn’t force him. We didn’t rush him. We simply gave him the guidance, confidence, and consistency he needed to figure it out.

About 3 minutes later… HE GOT IT. 🙌

This is why working through the things that make your dog uncomfortable is so important. Dogs don’t build confidence by always doing what’s easy. They build confidence by learning that new, weird, uncomfortable things are manageable.

Every time you calmly help your dog work through something instead of allowing them to avoid it, you’re teaching them:

👉 “I can do hard things.”
👉 “I can trust my handler.”
👉 “New things aren’t scary forever.”
👉 “I know what’s expected of me.”

Training isn’t always about getting the perfect behavior on the first try.

Sometimes it’s about sticking with your dog long enough for them to realize they CAN. 💪🐕

Don’t quit at try #3 when try #4 might be the breakthrough.

That’s how we build confident, reliable dogs. 🐾

🔥 “Well… that’s just his breed.”

We hear this one A LOT.

“He’s a Husky. Of course he doesn’t listen.”

“He’s a Lab. He’s supposed to jump.”

“He’s a Shepherd. He’s naturally reactive.”

“He’s a puppy. He’s supposed to be crazy.”

Breed absolutely matters. Genetics matter. Temperament matters.

BUT…

None of those mean we simply accept behaviors that make living with your dog miserable.

You may not change WHO your dog is — and you shouldn’t want to.

Training teaches them how to manage those instincts and live successfully in YOUR world. 🐕💪
