🐴🦇 Rabies may be rare in horses, but it is always fatal once symptoms appear.

The virus is typically spread through the bite of an infected animal and can affect any mammal. In horses, early signs may look like colic or another illness before rapidly progressing to severe agitation, unusual aggression, difficulty swallowing, excessive drooling, weakness, paralysis, or death. 🧠⚠️

Because rabies also poses a serious risk to people, never place your hands near the mouth of a horse showing unexplained neurological or behavioral changes. Keep your distance and contact a veterinarian immediately. 🩺🚨

Annual rabies vaccination is a simple but powerful way to protect your horse, your family, and your entire community. 💉💙

🐴🧠 When the brain or its protective lining becomes inflamed, every second matters.

Meningitis and encephalitis can cause serious neurological changes in horses. Warning signs may include fever, neck stiffness, painful muscle spasms, loss of balance, facial or limb weakness, seizures, unusual behavior, head tilting, circling, difficulty eating, or loss of consciousness. ⚠️🌡️

These conditions can be caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, or parasites, and the outlook often depends on the cause, severity, and how quickly treatment begins. 🩺

You know your horse best. If they suddenly seem disoriented, unsteady, painful, or unlike themselves, contact your veterinarian immediately. 💙🐎

🐴⚠️ When a horse suddenly cannot properly move or bear weight on a leg, it may be more than an orthopedic injury.

Leg paralysis can occur when nerves in the neck, shoulder, back, or limb become damaged, often following trauma. Warning signs may include dragging the hoof, knuckling over, muscle weakness, an unusual gait, or an inability to flex the joints or support weight. 🦵🧠

Because nerve damage can quickly lead to muscle loss, prompt veterinary evaluation is essential. Recovery may take weeks or even months, & supportive care such as veterinarian-directed massage, stretching, bandaging, & rehabilitation can help protect the affected limb while the nerves heal. 🩺💙

Sudden weakness, stumbling, or loss of movement should never be ignored. Know your horse’s normal & contact your veterinarian right away when something changes. 🐎
