Dental discomfort in horses is often quiet and gradual. You might notice dropping grain, slow eating, head tossing under saddle, resistance to the bit, or unexplained weight loss. Sometimes the only sign is a change in attitude or performance.
Regular dental exams help address small issues before they become bigger problems.

Colmey Veterinary Hospital is hosting an Equine Dental Month in June of 2026. Call to reserve your horse’s appointment and receive 10% off the dental service.

A horse’s teeth are designed to grind forage for 16+ hours a day — and they continuously erupt for much of their life. That constant eruption and chewing naturally create sharp enamel points and uneven wear over time. Even horses that seem to be eating normally can have significant oral discomfort. Routine dental floating keeps the mouth balanced, comfortable, and functioning properly.

It's that time of year again! Spring and summer weather brings an increase in rattlesnake activity, especially with the warm winter we've had this year. If your dog has previously received the rattlesnake vaccine, remember to get your annual booster! If your dog hasn't been vaccinated and you're curious about it, we'd be happy to discuss if it's appropriate for your dog. Unfortunately there is no vaccine for cats.

Final reminder for our Equine First Aid with Paradise Valley Equine located

Saturday, Feb 21st from 1-4pm.

We wanted to clarify the format of the afternoon:
This is a casual, open-house style event. You do NOT need to stay for three hours, unless you really want to hangout!
Drop in anytime during the event, listen to the topics that interest you, ask questions in a casual setting, and head out when you need.
Throughout the afternoon there will be stations discussing common equine emergencies we see locally, including:
Choke
Colic
Lacerations
Rattlesnake bites & allergic reactions
Eye injuries
We will also be doing bandage demonstrations on an equine leg model at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30.

*Weather allowing* there will also be a chance to learn and practice taking a proper TPR assessment on a live equine patient from 1:15-2:15PM.
