Calling all current clients and their pets! We've had patients who were in need of emergent blood transfusions - like Maisy here - so have been maintaining a Blood Donor List!

Maisy came in just after Christmas 2023 for lack of appetite, vomiting and lethargy of a few days' duration. Dr. Balogh noticed her gums were pale and the whites of her eyes were slightly yellow, and blood work showed a decreased red blood cell count (anemia) and decreased platelet count (thrombocytopenia). Further testing revealed that Maisy's body was destroying her own cells, and she needed a blood transfusion right away.

Proper dental alignment is essential for effective grinding of forage. When abnormalities are present, horses may quid hay, pack feed in their cheeks, or struggle to maintain weight. Poor mastication can also increase the risk of choke and colic due to impaction.
