As an ethical pet groomer this needs to be said.
When a pet is severely or extensively matted, our priority is their comfort, safety, and well-being, not preserving the existing coat at all costs.
Heavy matting can pull tightly against the skin and create constant tension. Attempting to brush or comb out severe mats can cause significant pain, skin irritation, and unnecessary distress. In extreme cases, mats can also hide underlying skin problems or injuries. For this reason, we do not believe that putting a heavily matted pet through a prolonged dematting process is an ethical grooming practice.
Our goal is to remove severe matting as safely and humanely as possible, even when that means shaving the coat rather than attempting to save it. The hair can grow back. A pet's comfort, safety, and trust are far more important than preserving a matted coat.
We Will Not Compromise on Animal Welfare.
We understand that owners may be upset when they learn that shaving is the safest option. However, we will not be bullied, pressured, threatened, or intimidated into performing a grooming procedure that we believe is unsafe or unnecessarily painful for an animal.
Our professional judgment and responsibility to the pet come first. We will always explain our concerns and discuss the safest available options with the owner.
Threatening, abusive, aggressive, or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. If a conversation becomes hostile or threatening, we reserve the right to end the appointment and/or refuse future services.
We love what we do, and we take our responsibility to the animals in our care seriously. Every grooming decision we make is based on the animal's welfare—not on pressure to achieve a particular cosmetic result.
Humanity over vanity!
