🐎 Did you know that big drops in temperature can do more than just make your horse feel frisky? 🐎

Over the next few days we will be going from a daytime high of 78 degrees to just 48 degrees on Thursday—a swing of 30 degrees. It could even freeze overnight.

Horses, like humans, love consistency. They do very well when it’s hot and stays hot, or when it’s cold and stays cold. Big swings like this can cause disruptions in their activity level as well as hydration which can put them at risk for colic.

During these temperature changes, it’s important to:

🐎Keep them moving
💧Keep them hydrated
🕵️ Watch out for any changes in behavior

So why is Ken-Caryl Ranch Equestrian Center a trail lover’s paradise?

Not only do we have 50+ miles of diverse trails accessible directly from the Equestrian Center, but we also have several great locations for off-site riding less than a thirty-minute trailer ride away!

Some of these awesome locations include:
🏜️South Valley Park: ~7 minutes away with stunning red rock formations and barefoot friendly footing
⛰️Waterton Canyon: ~15 minutes away with stunning canyon views, a river, and mountain goats
🏞️Cherry Creek State Park: ~30 minutes away with wide open meadows, bridges, and a creek to ride in

🍂🐴 Fall Day Camps Are Here! 🐴🍂

For the very first time, Ken-Caryl Ranch Equestrian School is offering Fall Day Camps for kids!

Our campers will get to:
🐎 Learn about horse care
🏇 Ride once each day
🍁 Enjoy fun fall-themed activities
🤠 Make new friends and create great memories!

With small, intimate group sizes, these camps are designed to be welcoming and enjoyable for all riding skill levels—from beginners to experienced young riders.

🐴Barn Brew-Ha at the Equestrian Center this past weekend made for a lot of fun and excitement!

👧🧒Over the course of three hours, Ken-Caryl Ranch Equestrian Center helpers and horses gave over 80 pony rides to excited kiddos--talk about horse power!

💖We had so much fun interacting with the community. Thank you to everyone who helped with this fantastic event as well as everyone who gave us the opportunity to share our love of horses!

🐴School horses, Bernie, Gunner, Hoshi, and Tex, were very excited to enjoy the brisk air this morning!

❓We get a lot of questions about how old our school horses are and how long horses horses can be ridden.

👵🏻The answer is that all of our current school horses are 20+, but you would never know it based off this morning’s play session.

🐎A combination of movement, a careful feeding plan, and regular vet visits can help keep horses healthy and happy. Just like with humans, motion is lotion and keeping them active with moderate exercise like lessons can help horses stay youthful well into their senior years.

👩🏻‍⚕️Ultimately, it is best to work with vets to determine their ability to be ridden, but it’s also very important to listen to the horses as they are very adept at telling us when they are no longer interested in being ridden. Some horses enjoy being ridden even into their 30’s!

❤️We treasure our school horses here at Ken-Caryl Ranch Equestrian Center and hope that these valued members of the team stay healthy for years to come!

☀️ Summer camp is in full swing here at Ken-Caryl Ranch Equestrian Center! ☀️

🐴 During the weekdays at the EQC, volunteers and campers alike are here learning more about how to be well-rounded equestrians. They’re learning about topics like equine health, correct equitation, body language, and more.

🐴 We love seeing the next generation of horse people become passionate about it. Special thanks to our camp counselors and volunteers for making it all possible!
