Warm Weather = Swimming… But Is Your Pet Safe?

As temperatures rise, more pets are heading to pools, lakes, and rivers—but swimming comes with risks many owners don’t think about.

Before you let your pet dive in, ask yourself:

Does your pet actually know how to swim? (Not all dogs do)
Can they safely exit the pool or shoreline?
Are you supervising the entire time?

Key Safety Tips:

Always supervise pets around water—no exceptions
Use a properly fitted life jacket, especially for inexperienced swimmers
Rinse off after swimming to remove chlorine, salt, or bacteria
Provide fresh drinking water (to prevent them from drinking unsafe water)
Watch for fatigue—drowning can happen silently and quickly

Know the risks:

Blue-green algae (can be deadly even in small amounts)
Strong currents or drop-offs in natural water
Pool chemicals and saltwater irritation
Water intoxication from excessive ingestion

Swimming should be fun—not dangerous.

A little preparation can make all the difference.
