🚨🚨BATTLING CALICIVIRUS🚨🚨
This poor soul was barely hanging on to life when he was found by a Good Samaritan at a busy intersection. He was transported to the ER vet where it was originally he had been hit by a car.
Upon further examination this lethargic life had a virulent storm brewing in his body… calicivirus.
This poor soul shows the importance of preventative care and how extreme a virus can often work… everything can seem just wonderful one day and then in hours the virus when taking a severe form brews into a virulent storm. A chain reaction occurs in the body of even the healthiest who aren’t vaccinated.
Feline calicivirus is most often a highly contagious virus that causes a mild to severe respiratory infection and oral disease in cats. It also at times is well known later in life to be the root cause post disease for stomatitis. Most cats recover completely after a calicivirus infection, but rare strains can be especially deadly. The a rare, virulent strain can cause fatal inflammation of the liver, intestines, pancreas, and cells that line the blood vessels.
The course of treatment is supportive care which includes IV fluids, syringe feeding, antibiotics, antivirals and continued intensive care.
Our team stands appreciative of all those who stand by us as vulnerable life after vulnerable life comes in need… those who support our mission and believes in our work gives us the power to continue on when times are hard like now.
PLEASE THIS IS WHY WE BEG TO VACCINATE YOUR ANIMALS! This is a virus that doesn’t have to steal these precious lives. The standard core vaccines that are given to cats include immunization against calicivirus and will help reduce the severity of disease and shorten the length of the illness if your cat is exposed. Kittens require several boosters of this vaccine between the ages of 8 and 16 weeks, and at least one other booster a year later. After this initial series, the vaccine will also need to be boostered on a regular basis annually.
The Beauties & Beasts team needs your help to continue to take on these tough medicals. We can’t do it alone and it takes us all together for the success to help these lives in need and at risk.
