If the drone doesn’t find your deer… then what?

Every hunter knows that sick feeling. You replay the shot. The blood dries up. And you don’t know if your buck is lying 80 yards away—or bedded up and going to make it.

As a thermal drone pilot, I always want to have a contingency plan.

I don’t own a tracking dog, and I don’t pretend to be a dog tracker. I’ve spent my time specializing in thermal drone recovery—learning how to read thermals, understanding deer behavior from the air, and becoming as effective as possible with the tool I use.

But I also know there are situations where another specialty can bring something to the recovery that I can't.

That’s why I partner with Bloodline Trackers of Longspur, a team with an exceptional tracking dog and the experience to go with it.

They specialize in what they do. I specialize in what I do.

A thermal drone can cover enormous amounts of ground from the air without putting boots through a bedding area. A great tracking dog can work scent through thick cover and situations where the drone may not have visibility.

Eyes in the sky. Nose on the ground.

Sometimes the drone is the right first call. Sometimes the tracking dog is. And there are situations where using both specialties can give a hunter the best opportunity to get answers.

For me, this has never been about proving that a drone is better than a dog.

It’s about knowing the strengths and limitations of my equipment, surrounding myself with good people who are experts at what they do, and doing everything we reasonably can to help that hunter and do right by the animal.

Shot a deer and lost blood? Before you grid-search, back out, mark your last blood, and give us a call. We can talk through what happened and determine what makes the most sense for your situation.

MIRACLES STILL HAPPEN.

Maple was missing, scared, and deep in-flight mode. Her family was doing everything they could to bring her home when they called us in late one night.

We successfully located Maple with the thermal drone—but finding her was only the first step.

She was terrified. We made multiple plans and adjustments, knowing that one wrong move could send her running again.

This is where patience, experience, and lessons learned from past recoveries matter.

Slowly, we worked the situation until everything finally came together.

Maple was HOME SAFE. ❤️

Sometimes the miracle isn't just finding them. It's having the patience to finish the job.

Locate. Plan. Reunite.

“What are the odds you’ll find my pet?”

It’s one of the questions I get asked the most.

And the truth is—there are no guarantees in a lost pet search.

A thermal drone is an incredible tool, but it’s still a tool. Just like trail cameras, feed stations, flyers, traps, and talking with neighbors, it’s one piece of a successful search strategy.

There are simply too many variables outside anyone’s control. A pet can move. They can hide under a structure. Heavy cover can limit visibility. They may leave the search area entirely.

But there IS something I can guarantee.

When you hire me, you’re getting an experienced and passionate drone pilot who trains and flies year-round.

I spend countless hours behind the controls learning how different animals appear on thermal, how conditions affect what I’m seeing, how to read terrain and animal behavior, and how to thoroughly search an area.

I do that because when your pet goes missing, that isn't the time for me to practice.

When your dog is scared and running toward a roadway…

When your cat has disappeared and you haven't had a sighting…

When your family is exhausted, worried, and looking for answers…

That's when you need me to be ready.

I can never guarantee that a drone will locate your pet.

But I can guarantee that when I arrive, your search gets 1,000% of my effort.

Every bit of experience I've gained.
Every tool available to me.
Every lesson I've learned from previous searches.

I'll use all of it to give your family the best opportunity I possibly can to bring your pet home.

No false promises. No guaranteed finds. Just experience, preparation, and everything I've got when your family needs it most.

HOURS OF SEARCHING… THEN WE FINALLY FOUND HIM.

This one made us work for it.

We searched for hours, covering acre after acre, and just weren’t getting the answers we needed. But when a hunter calls us about a giant buck and puts his trust in us, we’re going to push as hard as we can.

We kept flying. Kept changing angles. Kept checking areas we had already covered.

And finally—we located him.

That moment is exactly why we practice and train all year long. Anyone can fly a drone. The real test is when the easy answers aren’t there and you have to keep working until you find what everyone else missed.

When hunters need us most, we want to be ready to deliver.

FOUND IN A DOWNPOUR

The hunter called after losing the blood trail on his buck. With the rain coming down hard, he knew time mattered—not only to recover his deer, but to save the meat before it was too late.

So he backed out and called us in.

We launched the thermal drone in an absolute downpour, and despite the conditions, we were able to locate his buck and help bring this recovery to a successful end.

Technology like this is incredible, but what means the most to me is being able to put it to work when hunters need answers the most.

Bad weather. Lost blood. A hunter who didn't want to give up.

We were blessed to be able to help—and deliver the result he was hoping for.

LOST BLOOD. HE STILL WANTED ANSWERS.

This hunter called me after he lost the blood trail. He wasn’t exactly sure about the shot, but he wanted to do his due diligence and make every effort to recover his buck.

We put the thermal drone in the air and were able to locate the buck and get a detailed look at its condition without pushing it.

That information gave the hunter the answers he needed to make the right decision. After the buck expired, he was able to go in and make the recovery.

That’s one of the biggest advantages of thermal drone technology. It’s not always just about finding a deer—it’s about getting answers from the air without sending people through the woods and potentially pushing a wounded deer off the property.

Lost the blood? Don’t lose the opportunity to get answers.

COYOTES WERE IN THE AREA. TIME MATTERED.

This hunter called us in and trusted us to help recover a beautiful buck—and with coyotes active nearby, getting answers quickly could make all the difference.

We put the thermal drone in the air, located his deer, and helped guide the recovery before the coyotes could get to it—saving the meat and bringing this hunter the answers he needed.

This is the power of a thermal drone.

When time matters, thermal technology can be an incredible tool for recovery. It allows us to cover ground quickly, locate deer without sending people through acres of cover, and help hunters make the right next move.

I feel blessed and honored every time a hunter puts their trust in Nighthawk Drone Services. They call us when it matters—and we take that responsibility seriously.

Another hunter trusted us. We delivered.

He didn't want to give up on his buck.

After the shot, he and several other people grid searched for an entire day. No luck.

He could have called it quits right there. But he wanted answers, so he called us in.

With the thermal drone in the air, we found his buck in UNDER 10 MINUTES.

That's the power of drone technology. You can spend days walking thick cover looking for a deer that may be closer than you think. Sometimes the smartest move is knowing when to bring in another tool.

30+ hours after the shot. One hunter who refused to quit. And finally, an answer.

Full recovery video coming soon. Can't wait to share it with everyone!
