Donkey Dreams Sanctuary We provide wild and rescue donkeys a forever home in a donkey family enjoying peace and love for the rest of their lives.

We are GFAS (Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries) Certified. Donkey Dreams was birthed in our hearts when we realized some donkeys desire to roam open spaces with their families, have a special place to call their forever home and to interact with humans at their leisure. While we primarily exist to give donkeys who have been displaced from their original homes their best life, we also exist t

o make the world a better place, one donkey and human interaction at a time. We believe donkeys have an amazing ability to make you feel loved, accepted and worthy. It’s been our observation that when people interact with donkeys they have an increased sense of well-being, kindness and compassion. We are currently home to 25 residents, including 8 special needs donkeys, 7 donkeys over 20 years old, 4 donkeys under two years old, and 4 mom/juvenile pairs. The Donkey Parade

After the donkeys finish eating breakfast at Base Camp, they roam to the other side of the sanctuary.

We get a front row seat to the parade while we prep meals and medicine in our donkey care trailer.

The donks meandering back to base camp, where their water troughs and nightly forage bags are waiting.

Interesting how most of them decided to head back together from Gold Ridge, where they'd spent the afternoon exploring and napping under the trees.

Most travel in their small family groups. Some follow the donkey in front of them. Some find their own path.

We could watch these guys for hours. We're learning so much about wildly domestic donkeys.

A Donkey Dream come true!

When Edj and I made the lifelong decision of creating a donkey sanctuary, we did so with the unwavering commitment to preserving the wild burro spirit.

That commitment started with rescuing small burro family groups — and then we were entrusted with something even bigger: family groups spanning three generations, some rescued straight from the slaughter pipeline.

As we welcomed more and more families, we knew we would need more space as the young donkeys in the family got bigger.

Today we share with you the manifestation of our steadfast vision to preserve the wild burro spirit — multi-generational donkey families roaming and foraging in a wild habitat almost as if they were still wild and free.

While this vision has lived in our hearts, it would not exist without our Donkey Dreams caring community—

-our sponsors who financially provide lifelong care for the donkeys�-our friends and family who help us care for the donkeys�-our true believer grantors and foundations who fund longterm care for our donkeys so they live in safety with sovereignty�-and all of you who give so the donkeys can live in peace and joy

Thank you so much A Home For Every Horse for sharing Gabriel’s “freedom story”. He is an inspiration to us daily!

This month, in the spirit of the Year of the Horse, we’re celebrating
Freedom. Open fields. Independent spirit. Run wild. Run true.​

Freedom can mean different things to every equine. For Gabriel, freedom looked like healing, friendship, and finally finding where he belonged.​

When Gabriel was a baby living in the wild, he survived alone with part of his back leg missing. After a cattle rancher found him, Donkey Dreams Sanctuary drove hours to bring him to safety and begin his next chapter.​

The road ahead was not easy. Gabriel needed time to heal, gain strength, and adjust to an entirely new world. Through daily care, brushings, cuddles, and more than 75 bandage changes, he slowly learned to trust. Then came his "magic leg," a prosthetic that changed everything.​

​Soon, Gabriel was doing what he had wanted from the beginning: connecting with other donkeys, joining the Brave Herd, running, playing, and finding joy in being part of a family.​

Gabriel reminds us that freedom isn't always about where you run. Sometimes it's about finding safety, healing, and a herd that helps you thrive. ❤️🐴​
