Did you know that approximately 1 in 7 cats may have undetected hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)? 🐱❤️

HCM is a form of heart disease where the walls of the heart become thickened, making it harder for the heart to function properly. The tricky part? Many cats show NO obvious clinical signs — and not all cats with heart disease have a heart murmur.

Early detection can make a huge difference! Diagnostic testing such as an echocardiogram or a simple, affordable blood test called ProBNP can help us identify heart disease earlier, before symptoms develop.

The good news: with early detection, this condition can often be monitored and managed to help keep your cat happy, comfortable, and living a longer, healthier life. 🩺🐾

Ask us about ProBNP testing and whether it may be right for your feline family member!

March is a great time to refresh your pet health awareness! 🌷🐾 As we head into spring, here are a few things to watch for to help keep your pets safe and happy:

• Pet Poison Prevention Month – Spring flowers like lilies, tulips, and daffodils can be toxic, especially to cats. Be mindful of what your pets can access indoors and outdoors. 🌼
• Flea, tick & heartworm prevention – Warmer weather means parasites become more active. Staying current on prevention is key! 🦟
• Spring cleaning products – Many cleaners can be harmful if ingested or inhaled. Keep pets away from freshly cleaned surfaces and securely store supplies. 🧼
• Seasonal allergies – Increased pollen can cause itching, licking, ear infections, or skin irritation. 🤧
• Outdoor hazards – Fertilizers, mulch, and standing water can pose risks. Always supervise curious noses! 🌱

If you have questions about prevention, allergies, or toxin risks, our team is always happy to help. Here’s to a safe and healthy spring season for your pets! 💚🐶🐱

❤️ A Valentine’s Message from Chenal Valley Animal Hospital ❤️

If you’ve ever been in one of our exam rooms, you’ve probably heard us say:

Your best friend deserves the very best care.

One of the hardest conversations we have with families is about cancer.

It is the leading cause of death in adult dogs.
And lymphoma is one of the most common types we diagnose.

What makes it especially difficult?
Many dogs feel completely normal in the early stages.
No warning. No obvious signs.

That’s why we’re excited to offer a new lymphoma screening blood test.

🐾 Recommended for dogs 7 years and older
🐾 High-risk breeds starting at 4 years old, including:
• Golden Retrievers
• Labrador Retrievers
• Boxers
• German Shepherds
• Rottweilers
• Bernese Mountain Dogs
• Standard Poodles
• Doberman Pinschers

The test is simple — just a blood sample — but the information can be powerful.

Lymphoma can progress quickly. Early detection gives us the opportunity to act sooner, offering more treatment options and often preserving quality of life.

And when it comes to cancer screening?
A negative result is something we celebrate. 🩷

For Valentine’s and love month, the most meaningful way to “spread the love” may be proactive care.

The greatest gift you can give your dog isn’t a new toy or extra treats…

It’s more time.

If you have questions about whether your dog should be screened, we’d love to talk and create a personalized plan for your family.
