In May 2025, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed Dexter’s Law (House Bill 255), strengthening punishments for aggravated animal cruelty and establishing Florida’s first statewide animal abuse registry. The legislation became fully effective on January 1, 2026. It directs the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to operate a publicly searchable online database containing people convicted of animal cruelty offenses or who entered guilty or no-contest pleas. Shelters, rescue organizations, and pet sellers are expected to consult the registry before approving cat and dog adoptions or sales.

The law takes its name from Dexter, a rescue dog adopted from a Pinellas County shelter in May 2024 and killed by his adopter only days afterward. Dexter’s Law strengthens sentences for aggravated animal cruelty through a 1.25-point multiplier under the Florida Criminal Punishment Code, raises fines, and prevents certain records from being sealed. People convicted of serious abuse may be barred from owning, adopting, or buying cats or dogs for a set period or permanently, addressing earlier loopholes that let repeat offenders obtain more pets.

Animal welfare supporters welcome the legislation as an important move toward stopping repeated abuse and safeguarding vulnerable pets, while shelters now have a useful way to screen prospective adopters. The database started publishing names in early 2026 and seeks to put public safety and animal welfare first. Critics of previously lenient systems say the registry strengthens accountability and helps ensure animals are placed in safe homes.

Multiple Cybertruck owners have reported waking up to find that raccoons had tried overnight to get into their vehicles, leaving muddy paw prints across the stainless steel body and, in several cases, tearing the rubber trim surrounding the tonneau cover. The first verified incident took place on a camping trip in Minnesota, where an owner stowed food in the truck bed, believing it was secure. The raccoons had other ideas.

Tesla marketed the Cybertruck as built for any planet. Forum members noted that it apparently cannot handle Minnesota wildlife. One commenter suggested that other trucks avoid this problem because they do not look like garbage containers. Fixing the torn trim starts at around $1,000.

Ok next question and i changed my original post so please be aware. I am just trying to get a feel for this. I feel very strongly about disease free herds but i'm learning quite a few don't. So, what do you do at shows to provide some measure of biosecurity. Last year i saw a woman cleaning up milk off the ground with bleach. i thought it was very proactive of her. Ideas? tarps and no touch? maintain your distance? what about folks dumping milk in wash racks for everyone to wade through. And just a reminder here. I would never name names or disclose locations. when you go to shows this is the kind of thing you face and need to think about I believe.

Just a question for discussion. If I know a farm has CAE and CL in their herd. I steer totally clear of them but they show and they feel neither of these are a big deal. Which i know there are people out there that feel this way. They don't separate positive from new additions to their herd. This awareness has made me extremely leery of showing anywhere. what are your thoughts on this? CAE is a reportable disease in AR and so few know that. CL should be.

I usually don't breed a doe until they will be about two when they kid. However, I have a couple obers that weigh about 70 lbs now. They would be yearlings when they kid. What do you think? Btw I would breed them to Nigerians.

A teenager jumped into a river to save several lives 🌊

When a car carrying three girls crashed into a river, a nearby 16-year-old didn’t hesitate. He jumped into the water to help them escape.

As the situation became chaotic, even a police officer began struggling in the current. The teen helped guide everyone to safety before emergency crews arrived.
