Tucker, Molly and Milo need forever homes with people who know - there will be many difficult days, who have the patience to help them dog. They need someone home all the time, to not be crated, to have no small children, to have a confident -socialized resident dog to learn from and a fenced in yard.
Can you look past where they came from and see them for the pups in need they are?

"All good ☺️They're not growling"
Hang on.
Some dogs can and do growl in play.
It can be completely normal.

"So how can I tell"?
It can be tricky to tell the difference between healthy play and those interactions that are something else entirely.
There are some areas we can look at to help us decipher.

➡️Immediate posture changes/rigidity/stillness

Some dogs pause, go still and then explode with loose and wiggly movements. That’s often play.
The problematic kind of rigidness is different.
It can linger for longer.
Even when the other dog is showing everyway they can "all's good here".
That stillness and posture is "tight".

It can come with hard stares, leaning or standing over.
Stiff body posture from either dog, even the one on the ground.

That’s not play

➡️When high energy switches to frantic.

Chasing and being chased. Some dogs love this.
There can be an energy change with chasing that we need to watch for though.
It can turn.
It can become far more frantic and direct.

If one dog is always the chaser, and when they catch the other, the tone changes, the body language tightens, the movements escalate and it stops looking mutual?
That’s when caution is needed.

We don't want to stop dogs playing but we do need to recognise when it's no longer fun for all dogs involved.

Lottie Update 💜

This morning was rough.

Lottie spent the morning whining, trembling, and unable to settle. Those who know her know she is vocal and loves her people, but this was different. The crying was constant, her shoulder was visibly trembling, and she just couldn’t get comfortable. We were concerned that her pain was much worse than we initially realized.

After talking with our veterinary team, we decided to try another "pain" patch. We shaved an area over her hip, secured the patch with Tegaderm, and added extra protection to help keep it in place.

The result?

Almost immediately after applying the patch, Lottie curled up into the cutest little coonie curl and finally fell asleep. 🥹❤️

For the first time today, she looks comfortable.

We know we still have a long road ahead. Her anemia needs to improve before surgery can happen, and we are continuing her medications, and supportive care while we work toward her tentative surgery date next week.

But seeing her finally resting peacefully was exactly what our hearts needed today.

Thank you to everyone who continues to follow her journey, send prayers, donate, and cheer her on. Every little bit of support means the world to this sweet girl.

If you’d like to help support Lottie’s recovery, items from her Amazon Wishlist are greatly appreciated:

Now let’s all hope Lottie enjoys a long, uninterrupted nap. 🐾💕

Lottie Update 💜

Welp. 🤦🏽‍♀️ we just can't win.

We got Lottie's "pain" patch on last night however it was NOT on her this morning. After reviewing the footage, we determined that she rolled it off in her sleep because she didn't move much.

We are watching for signs in an event she got any in here, but so far she seems to be doing well. Again, thank you Parkside Animal Care Center for coming to the rescue during our panic this AM.

The pain meds have definitely kicked in as she took a sniff walk around the yard this morning independently. She LOVES people and whines when you are near but not close enough.

After we get over this pain bump, we think she will do great! 💜💖🥰

Lottie update 💜

We have a difficult update on Lottie. 🖤
Unfortunately, Lottie is unable to have surgery today.

After additional testing this morning, it was discovered that her red blood cell count is too low for her to safely survive anesthesia and surgery at this time. As devastating as that is, the priority right now is keeping her stable, comfortable, and alive.

Our vet team is working on getting her pain under control today, including administering a ketamine injection to help manage the severe discomfort she’s been experiencing.

They also suspect that Lyme disease and/or Anaplasmosis may be playing a role in how poorly she’s feeling, so Lottie will be starting doxycycline immediately.

At this point, Lottie’s pain management plan will mirror the aggressive protocol we used for Reign which includes the "pain" patch.

If all goes well and her body starts responding the way we hope, surgery is tentatively being planned for next Thursday.

In the meantime, we are going to have to do some foster shifting behind the scenes to make sure both girls receive the level of care they need. Reign will temporarily be moving to another foster home so Lottie can receive the intensive monitoring and medical support required over the next week.

This is rescue. Sometimes plans change in an instant. Sometimes the wins are simply getting them comfortable enough to make it to tomorrow.

Please keep Lottie in your thoughts today. This sweet girl is fighting hard, and we are going to fight right alongside her. 🖤
