I thought with being in the " thick" of transitional mares in the frigid NE, I'd share a video about what we mean when we say " breaking down". This is shared with permission of the owner, and her mare is here being bred.
As you will note in the video, it is unmistakable from a mare peeing. The stance , almost tippy-toe, and consistency is markedly different. I thought this would be a good point to bring up, and show, for those that havent seen, or are new to breeding.
If this video bothers you, you can kindly remove yourself from my page, and you might want to consider AI as an alternative..it is more clinical ;)

Horse folks are the best of the best. You know how I told you the story of how KeyLock Farm, in NH stepped up to help me get my Jr. Chocolatey Stallion started, and took him early because of Regs accident? Well, I got a chance to pay a bit forward today. I have a great friend with some of the best broodmares up here in the NE. Her and her hubby are going THROUGH IT. He was the one I asked for prayers for.. yes, hes home..but barely. His IV meds are 9K and he gets them weekly. She's been trying ( like me) to catch these pesky mares in heat, driving back and forth between us..im sure it was exhausting. I suggested she just load up,and take my boy to them. There's Noone else id EVER do this for, and I know she would me, if needed. I loaded him, she took him..and they've had a successful cover already today. Im SO proud of Sierra. and im so proud of you Jessica Coutu , and Evan ( holding the mare with like 1 lung, lol) you've got what it takes, and you will succeed. Here's to 27

Yes, im well aware of the ppl NOT in my life. My picture, my horse, I'll post it because of who STILL is in my life. This year there will be 2 new stallions standing side x side , because thats how we roll up here in the NE!!

Oh..this filly..lol
I penned her today after 3 Mos off ( my busyness, not her choice) I went to let her outside and she let me know she needed my time. Within 15 minutes she was on task, reversing both directions, whoa- ing and walking. The cherry on top? when I thought we were done I " blew" Eli Harper and she stopped, and exhaled. I whistled, and she walked in to me. YESSSS

I could just sit in here and listen to him chew. Though he is only 8, he is an old soul. I dont understand it, but I think we knew each other before?
