Cooler temperatures are on the way, and hopefully a few big bucks are about to make a mistake!

We’re two weeks into archery season, and it looks like we might finally get some cooler weather this weekend! Hopefully this cold front gets the deer moving and a few more tags filled!

Here at Great Lakes Beetle Barn we’re ready for a busy season!

We’re a small, veteran-owned business located in Espyville, PA, offering quality European skull mounts cleaned with dermestid beetles.

For $150, we take care of everything! Skinning, beetle cleaning, full degreasing, and whitening. We also have a 24-hour drop-off freezer available, making it easy to drop off your legally harvested and tagged deer whenever it’s convenient.

Whether it’s your first buck or one you’ve been chasing for years, we’d be happy to help turn it into a European style skull mount you can enjoy for years to come.

Pennsylvania archery season starts tomorrow, hunters!

Great Lakes Beetle Barn is ready for another season here in Espyville, PA — WMU 1A.

We specialize in quality deer European mounts using dermestid beetles.

$150 total
• Skinning
• Beetle cleaning
• Full degreasing
• Whitening

🇺🇸 Veteran owned

Convenient 24-hour onsite drop-off freezer

All deer must be legally harvested and tagged, and dropped off fresh or kept frozen.

An awesome finished Mount for a good fishing friend. This one was a 2025 deer that was kept frozen until after the busy season.

This one deserves to be more than just a “finished mount” post. I’ll tell the story behind it:

63 YEARS ON THE FARM. ONE FINAL COW.

Some mounts are trophies.
Some are memories.

And every once in a while, one comes through the Great Lakes Beetle Barn that means far more than either.

At 81 years old, this gentleman has spent 63 years of his life farming. For more than six decades, cattle were simply part of life—early mornings, late nights, feeding, fixing fence, working through bad weather, and doing it all again the next day.

When i asked how many cows he had raised over the years, he just smiled and said he had lost track a long time ago.

But he remembered this one.

This steer was special to him. More importantly, it was the last cow remaining on his farm.

When the time came for him to quit farming, he decided he wanted to keep a piece of those 63 years. He brought the head to Great Lakes Beetle Barn and trusted us to preserve it for him.

Today, he came back to pick it up.

As he stood there holding that finished skull, there was a faint tear running from behind his glasses.

That moment hit hard, Because he wasn’t just looking at a cow skull. He was holding 63 years of his life.

Thousands of mornings. Countless cattle. Long days in the fields. Hard winters. Good years and bad ones. A lifetime of work that most people will never fully understand.

And now, the very last cow from his farm will remain with him as a reminder of all of it.

I take pride in every European mount that leaves my shop—but we’ll remember this one for a long time.

Thank you for trusting Great Lakes Beetle Barn with the last chapter of 63 years on the farm. It was an honor.

Pennsylvania archery season is almost here, and Great Lakes Beetle Barn in Espyville, PA — WMU 1A is ready for another season of turning hard-earned trophies into clean European mounts.

We specialize in DERMESTID BEETLE CLEANED EUROPEAN SKULL MOUNTS.

* No boiling the hell out of your skull.

* No pressure washing delicate bone across the driveway.

* No explaining to your wife why there’s a deer head simmering in her favorite stock pot.

These little guys don’t care what he scored, how far you dragged him, or how many times you’ve already told the story about the shot.

They work into the smallest cavities and hard-to-reach areas of the skull, removing tissue while preserving the fine bone structure and detail of your trophy.

Once the beetles finish,every skull goes through a thorough degreasing and whitening process to get it clean and ready for the wall. NO HARSH CHEMICALS OR SHORTCUTS!
