Do you have a farm animal that just outshines everyone else? The one you can rely on to do exactly what you need, when you need it?

Rough is that for us. He is my steady eddy, calm cool collected in any scenario pig. He gives me zero issues. He is the same everyday, in every situation - unbothered, respectful, and easy going. He treats his ladies like gems, even giving up his meal for them without a fight.

🐽Time to worm?
Stands like a statue for his shot

🐽Need a hoof trim?
Lays down/rolls over without a fight

🐽Feed time chaos?
Waits by his bowl patiently while everyone else loses their ever lovin’ minds.

How did I get so lucky! Rough gets all the best treats first ♥️

Look for two litters by him spring 2027!

Good grief he is handsome and just keeps getting better with age 🤌 We are looking forward to having litters by him again next spring after a year off from the breeding pen.

We exclusively used our Mahia Love boar “Jay Gatsby” last year to test the waters on which crosses we liked with him. Now that we have a good idea of who crosses well with whom - we have a solid plan next year and pairing select girls with each.

2027 comes with a lot of excited for improvements we want to see in our herd moving forward.

Our barrow Mickey received the prestigious title of Rough’s lifetime companion. He will get to live out his days here soaking up the sun, enjoying all the treats, all while fulfilling his duties of keeping his dad company.

Wrapping up our spring 2027 breeding line up is our sweet Sue Sue. This Wilson’s Gina gilt has earned the “low rider” title with the most glorious tree trunk legs, very noteworthy length, and the sweetest personality to boot…but is a little short cake. She comes in like a little laser guided missile, and steals your heart almost instantaneously.

She is most certainly not the tallest girl out here, and is currently going through a growth spurt where she has thinned out and gotten even longer, which out weighs my need for height and trust width will come in time.

We are pairing her with our boar Rough for her maiden litter. Rough will bring some width and a bit of height, while hopefully still complimenting her stocky stature. Both of their personalities are calm, sweet, and laid back - so I already anticipate this litter winning my heart.

Sue Sue just turned 15months, so she will hold out another month at least until her first date but knowing the gentlemanly nature of Rough, she will be treated like gem.

Our next planned pairing for spring of 2027 will be a repeat litter.

Akkps 36197 BWF Jenny “Princess Fiona”
Akkps 34074 SDF Mahia Love “Jay Gatsby”

They produced a marvelous litter this year of stout builds, symmetrical muscling, great growth rates, strong legs, and laid back personalities. We are hoping they give us a repeat in 2027.

This girl just does not get the social media attention she deserves. Her dairy cow markings make it hard to get a good photo that represents her awesome build and outstanding movement. That black/white contrast makes her the most unphotogenic pig I have, coupled with her desire for love, we have very few great photos of her. I still don’t think this these pics do her justice, but with her maiden litter planned - we need to introduce her as part of our breeding line up for early spring 2027.

Daisy is our home bred gilt out of Petunia and our former boar Tough. (Tarutaru x Tuahuru).

This girl moves like a smooth quarter horse. BIG strides that cover ground quickly, SOLID body, symmetrical muscling, and impressive growth. She is built like a tank. Her only “fault”? I would like some heavier bone on her, and maybe some hair on her tail 🤦‍♀️ (she got that signature look from her momma). So in an effort to correct that, we are pairing her with Jay Gatsby for her maiden litter. I’m hoping he can compliment her while adding bone and continuing to add length.

Happy Birthday to these two free loaders! 🥳

Ernie officially turns 4 today and Milo turns 3!

Since we don’t know his actual birth date, we declared them birthday twins and Milo is celebrating his honorary birthday today as well.

These two goofs are two peas in a pod, offer absolutely no assistance to farm life except for comic relief and a surprise need for baths. But - we love them just the same, our lives would be very boring without these two “Dum Dums” to keep us entertained. 🤣

Our herd matriarch Petunia (AKKPS 25417: Ten Mile Ranch TaruTaru) has blessed us with some big bodied, well muscled, fast growing healthy litters the last couple years. She turns 5 in Feb but still handles pregnancy, farrowing, and nursing weight like a dream. She is by far our best momma here. She is gentle, extremely careful (has never lost a piglet), and keeps her litters in line with quiet corrections.

She will be paired with our boar Rough (Akkps 36555 4 Winds Farms Tuahuru) for the first time this winter for early spring 2027 babies. We are excited to see what this pairing will bring!

We may have been quiet on social media lately, but the farm has been anything but.

This is my favorite time of year. The weather is getting cooler, the trees are blessing us with gorgeous colors, bonfires in the cool night air as we prep for the season of thanks.

Getting ready for winter has us working until sun down, which is now 7pm. We are continuing our pasture rotation schedule, planning future grids to extend our grazing as long as possible before moving into winter pens, planning breeding pairs, revamping farrowing pens, cleaning, storing, and scheduling pork processing.

No rest for the weary but we are always grateful for the life we live, the animals we raise, and the challenges we face.
