Id say already mad just by the idea of working for her dental treat early in the AM😂

Once your dog has mastered a few commands and tricks, it’s important to start asking for multiple behaviors before rewarding with a treat — yes, just one treat!

When teaching new behaviors, we reward frequently to help our dogs learn and build confidence. But once they fully understand a command, we can begin transitioning to random rewards instead of rewarding every single repetition.

This creates what’s called a “gambling effect.” Your dog never knows exactly when the reward is coming — maybe after 2 commands, maybe after 5 — which keeps them motivated and engaged every time you ask for a behavior. They continue listening because there’s always a chance a reward is coming next!

That being said, it’s still extremely important to reward our dogs consistently over time. After all, you wouldn’t want to go to work and never get paid at the end of the week! Our dogs deserve to be rewarded for their hard work too, whether that’s with treats, praise, toys, or affection.

Meet Rufus! We’ve been working with his older brother Chester, and today it was Rufus’ turn to shine.

Rufus is focusing on building confidence outside the home without his brother, along with improving his dog reactivity.

This video is from the end of his training session, and he made incredible progress in a short amount of time. He quickly picked up exactly what we were asking of him and showed great improvement in his ability to stay regulated around his triggers.

Our goal is to counter-condition his emotional response to other dogs while out on walks. We started with Sophie at a distance and that allowed us to accurately assess Rufus’ reactivity level. From there, we adjusted difficulty based on his body language and responses throughout the session.

By the end of the session, you can see how close Sophie is working to Rufus with no reaction—huge progress for a first session!

Do you have a reactive dog? Reactivity can include anxiety, fear, nervousness, or overexcitement when seeing other dogs or people on walks. It’s our specialty, and we’d love to help you get started on your reactivity training journey.

Meet Nani — a 3-year-old couch potato and proud PitBull! We recently completed a 3-day, 2-night stay with her and had an absolute blast. Nani was such a sweetheart and the ultimate cuddle bug!

During her stay, we provided daily feedings, walks, medication administration, and plenty of playtime. She loved getting the zoomies outside, but once she got her energy out, she was more than happy to spend the rest of the day snoozing away 😂

We truly enjoyed meeting Nani and her paw-rents, and we are so grateful to be trusted with her care. We look forward to any future stays with this sweet girl!

Check out Tank’s training journey with us! Tank is an 8-month-old Labrador Retriever and Coopers Brother! Our primary focus was to eliminate jumping behavior on house guests. Over the course of one month, with sessions held twice per week, Tank made excellent progress.

Consistency is essential when it comes to successful dog training. While Tank’s owner was at work, we focused on building a strong foundation for his core commands. This allowed for a smoother transition when it was time for his owner to reinforce and maintain those behaviors at home.

Does your dog become overly excited when greeting guests? Or attempt to rush through the door when it’s opened? These are common challenges—and we’re here to help.

Check out Cooper’s training journey with us! Cooper is an 8-month-old Labrador Retriever, and our primary focus areas were reducing jumping on house guests and improving recall reliability. Over the course of one month, with sessions held twice per week, Cooper made excellent progress in both areas.

Consistency is essential when it comes to successful dog training. While Cooper’s owner was at work, we focused on building a strong foundation for his core commands. This allowed for a smoother transition when it was time for his owner to reinforce and maintain those behaviors at home.

Does your dog become overly excited when greeting guests? Struggle to respond when outdoors with distractions? Or attempt to rush through the door when it’s opened? These are common challenges—and we’re here to help.

Mirabel and Bruno are back! We recently completed our second in-home stay with them, and it was a wonderful experience all around. With the warmer weather, we were able to spend plenty of time outdoors enjoying the fresh air. Their stay included daily walks, enrichment activities, games of tug, and lots of zoomies in the yard.

It’s always a pleasure caring for them, and we’re already looking forward to their next visit!

Elvis has been making great progress on his loose-leash walking skills with Bre. In addition to building a strong foundation in basic obedience, his training is being approached with the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test in mind as he continues to mature.

One of the ten skills evaluated in the CGC test is walking politely on a leash. This includes maintaining position at the handler’s side, demonstrating control during at least two stops, and executing both left and right turns smoothly.

In these sessions, Elvis is specifically working on turns with Bre, which can often be one of the more challenging components of loose-leash walking. Dogs naturally recognize and rely on patterns, and since most daily walks consist primarily of straight movement, changes in direction can be more difficult for them to anticipate and follow.

In the first video, you’ll notice Elvis moving out of position during the turn. Bre calmly guides him back to the correct side and reinforces the desired behavior. In the following clip, Elvis shows clear improvement, demonstrating how quickly he is learning and adapting with consistent guidance and reinforcement.

Are you interested in having your dog earn their CGC certification but unsure where to begin? Or perhaps your dog is ready, but you’re not sure how to proceed? Our trainer, Sam, is a certified CGC evaluator and can guide you through the preparation process or administer the test.
