Thank you for EVERYTHING you do. So sorry you lost this baby pup. Unreal how some humans treat animals. God Bless you All๐พ๐
A few people have questioned why we share cases like this, and we wanted to explain.
We do not post these situations for attention, sympathy, or to upset anyone. We share them because this is the reality of animal welfare. Every day, we see animals that are abandoned, neglected, injured, sick, or suffering. While we wish these stories didnโt exist, pretending they donโt happen doesnโt help the animals that need us.
Education and awareness are important. Sometimes seeing the consequences of delayed veterinary care, lack of resources, or poor circumstances can encourage others to seek help sooner, spay and neuter their pets, vaccinate them, or reach out before a situation becomes a crisis.
The work we do is incredibly rewarding, but it can also be heartbreaking. We celebrate adoptions, recoveries, and happy endings, but we also hold animals as they take their last breaths, make difficult medical decisions, and witness suffering that most people never see. Those are not the stories we enjoy sharing, but they are part of the reality of shelter work.
Our goal will always be the same: to help animals, educate the community, and be transparent about the challenges animal shelters face every day. We are grateful to those who support us, even when the stories are difficult to read.
๐พ๐ญ My heart is shattered
Sadly, despite everyoneโs best efforts, the puppy did not survive.
Earlier today I received a call from HPD about a puppy that had been brought in in extremely critical condition. The puppy was barely breathing, non-responsive, severely dehydrated, and had white gums. I immediately transported the puppy to Aroostook Emergency Vet Clinic in Mars Hill for emergency treatment.
The veterinary team worked quickly to try to save this little one, but the puppyโs condition was simply too severe. Sometimes, even when help arrives as fast as possible, it is just too late.
Our hearts are broken for this puppy. No animal should have to suffer like this EVER!! Or the ones picking up the pieces!!!!
The emergency veterinary bill was $350. If anyone would like to help offset this unexpected expense, donations can be made to Houlton Humane Society and marked โPuppy Emergency Care.โ
Thank you to HPD and the veterinary staff who did everything they could to save this precious soul!
PLEASED SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS!!!!! Spaying and neutering is one of the most responsible and compassionate things pet owners can do. It helps prevent unwanted litters and reduces the number of animals that end up abandoned, neglected, homeless, or suffering. Many of the heartbreaking cases we see every day could have been prevented through spay and neuter programs.
