Sometimes in training, it’s during the times we stop training that matter most.

I was helping a client with their shy dog in public. About halfway thru we found an out of the way spot near a door that wasn’t being used. We both sat down. This is the only time that she stopped and sniffed. She truly started to relax. It was during this quiet time that it sunk in that nothing bad happened.

After this little rest, she was a little more willing to approach people. If we gave the person a treat, there was no hesitation to go up and get the treat. During the resting times, they learn that they can exist without fear and live without doing.

Take your dog to a park or pet friendly store. Find a place where you can watch the world go by. If your dog is reactive, start far away from the activity and just hang out.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Well, no more leaving coffee out…

I had a dog some time ago who was sitting by the couch when we got home sort of vibrating. I had no idea why he was behaving so weirdly until I realized that my mostly full cup of coffee was almost gone.

Are dogs supposed to have coffee? Absolutely not! No one told him that.

He didn’t touch it for a week. Then he decided he liked it and would drink as much as he could if I left the room! No more unattended coffee—even when I’m home.

I’ve had no issues since—until a couple weeks ago. I heard Phoenix licking something—coffee! He spilled more than he drank.

No leaving coffee out when Phoenix is out.

A few days later I hear slurping again—Rocky!

I’ve had this dog for 8 years. He’s never drank my coffee!

New rule: no unattended coffee ever!

I think dogs just want to stress you out!
