Broussard Farrier Services 35+ years experience in the traditional farrier trades combined with a modern, therapeutic approach. Science based horseshoeing that puts horses first.

My love affair with horses became a reality in the spring of 1973 in the form of a horse named Joe. He was a 3 year old pound-puppy of a horse, most likely part Quarterhorse, and I was an unruly ten year old kid. We were a perfect match. I used to love watching the farriers come out to the stables and shoe the horses, and I would stand right in the way and ask a million questions of that poor fellow who patiently shoe'd mine. By age 16, me and Joe had grown some, and I enrolled in a farrier science class at school. The rest is history... I've been shoeing and trimming horses pretty much all over the country since then. Every horse teaches me something new, and every day is another chance to improve. Horseshoeing has changed a lot since 1978, when I first opened up shop, and I do my best to keep up with the technology, but the horses are still horses and I still love to keep em shod.

Yesterday we did a variety of things! Always fun to wrangle goats, lol. Here are a few of our clients of the day.

Here are some of the horses we worked on today, last ones until next Tuesday! We are taking some much needed time off, so tell your horses to behave, keep their shoes on, and no abscesses allowed until next week!😁

We made a trip down to Watsonville to watch some of our friends/clients run st CSHA state finals. We had a great time rooting for the horses we normally only see at the shoeing stall!

When we can, we try to set up days where we only do trims, so we don't have to drag our shoeing trailer everywhere. So today was one of those days. Lots of stops, lots of feet, all the sizes, and lots of good conversation. We really have amazing customers.

We had an interesting case last week of an endurance horse with a coffin bone injury who needed a special shoe to immobilize the hoof capsule. Radiographs were taken, different shoe choices were tossed around, and then Bob went to work. Collaborations like this are so important for the horse's well being, giving them the best chance of recovery.

Tater got some hand crafted shoes after his trip to the vet. He needed some extra help, so Bob made him an heartbar shoe to protect his frog and heels when he's doing drill. He was so much more comfortable when we finished. It was great to see an improvement in his stride right away. Recess is over Tater!😁
