Meet Jazzy, a 10-month-old Labradoodle! 🐾

I know I haven’t been the best about posting lately, but I wanted to share one of my recent trainees!

Behind every well-behaved dog is a whole lot of practice. New places. New smells. New distractions. And choosing to make good decisions anyway.

Training isn’t about creating a “perfect” dog, it’s about building the skills, confidence, and communication that help dogs make great choices, even when the world around them is exciting.

Jazzy has been working hard, and I’m so proud of the progress she’s made! ❤️🐶

A Few Important Updates at Finding Dori

As the school year approaches and schedules begin to change, I wanted to share a few updates regarding boarding at Finding Dori. These changes will help me continue providing the personalized, quality-focused care that Finding Dori is known for while ensuring every dog has the best opportunity for a positive and successful boarding experience.

A Calm, Low-Stress Boarding Environment

One of the things that makes Finding Dori different is the smaller-scale, lower stress environment I strive to provide for every dog in my care. My focus has always been on quality over quantity, allowing me to provide individualized care and give each dog the time, attention, and structure they deserve.

To help maintain that environment, it’s important that we discuss any history of separation anxiety, crate anxiety, excessive vocalization, or frequent crate accidents before booking. Being open about your dog’s behavior helps determine whether Finding Dori is the right fit for both your dog and the other dogs in my care.

While some adjustment to a new environment is completely normal, dogs should be able to settle in, rest comfortably in a crate when needed, and recover from the excitement of the day. Dogs experiencing severe or ongoing crate anxiety, continuous barking, or repeated stress-related accidents may not be the best fit for my boarding environment, as these behaviors can significantly impact the well-being and comfort of the other dogs in my care.

My goal is for every dog staying at Finding Dori to feel safe, comfortable, and able to relax during their stay.

If your dog experiences significant anxiety when away from home, I encourage discussing options with your veterinarian before boarding. In some more extreme cases, having someone come to your home to pet sit may provide a more comfortable and less stressful experience for your dog. Unfortunately, I do not offer this service, but I may be able to provide recommendations if needed.

Business Hours & Scheduling

Effective immediately, my business hours are 8:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., by appointment only.

Due to working some morning hours at a local veterinary clinic, along with family commitments, morning availability will be very limited and may not be available every day. The earliest available morning appointment is 8:30 a.m.

As a reminder, all drop-offs and pick-ups are by appointment only. Please reach out in advance to schedule your arrival and departure times so we can find an appointment that works well for both of us.

Accidents & Hygiene Baths

Accidents can happen, especially when dogs are away from home, and I completely understand that some pups may need a little extra care during their stay. I never want to send a dog home dirty or uncomfortable. However, when a dog requires an unscheduled bath due to urine, f***l, vomit, or other hygiene-related accidents during boarding, it requires additional time, supplies, laundry, and cleanup.

To help keep this fair for everyone, a Hygiene Bath Fee, starting at 50% of the standard bath price, may be applied when an unscheduled bath is necessary.

My goal is always to send every dog home clean, comfortable, and feeling their best while helping offset the additional time and resources these situations require.

If repeated stress-related accidents become a pattern during your dog’s stay, my boarding environment may not be the best fit for their individual needs. My priority is always the well-being of your dog while maintaining a calm, enjoyable atmosphere for every guest.

Thank you for your understanding, trust, and continued support. Every decision I make is with your dogs’ best interests in mind. By keeping my program focused on quality over quantity, I can continue providing the individualized care, attention, and positive boarding experience that Finding Dori is known for.

I truly appreciate the opportunity to care for your dogs and look forward to many more happy tails and successful stays together. 🐾

🐶🥟 My kids making “dog dumplings” with their blankets. 🤣

🙃 Upside-down naps. 😴

👀 Judging people while curled up on a toddler-sized sofa 🥴

And everyone cuddling up in the human-sized dog bed together 🥰

They might be onto something…

Lazy days are good for the soul. ❤️🐾

Some men have to worry about their wives buying clothes, purses or shoes…

My husband has to worry about me buying trout-shaped dog toys. 🤣🎣🐾

But honestly, how could I not? It combines two of my favorite things: rainbow trout and dogs. 🤷‍♀️😂

To be fair, the girls seem pretty happy with my financial decisions. 😁

Some days it’s Labradors.
Some days it’s Goldens.

Today? The doodles have officially taken over. 🤣🐾

Current doodle count: 7.
(Dori isn’t pictured, which technically brings the doodle count to 8 😆)

At this point I’m pretty sure they’re running the place and I’m just here to provide snacks. 😂

Anyone else’s doodle convinced they’re actually in charge at home? 👀

🐾 Friendly Flea & Tick Prevention Reminder 🐾

With summer almost here and tick season in full swing, I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone to make sure their pups are up to date on flea and tick prevention!

Some of the most common things we hear are:

"My dog doesn't really go anywhere."
"We just forgot for a month or two."
"I don't have fleas in my backyard, I've checked." 🤔

The reality is that fleas and ticks don't care whether your dog travels frequently or spends most of their time at home. Fleas can be picked up in your own backyard, from wildlife passing through your property, on walks, at parks, and can even hitch a ride indoors on your shoes or clothing.

The tricky thing about fleas is that by the time you actually see them, they've often already been there for a while. And unfortunately, getting rid of them isn't usually a quick fix.

Once fleas become established in a home, it can take 3 months or more of consistent treatment, cleaning, vacuuming, and prevention to completely break the flea life cycle. Prevention is much easier (and less expensive!) than dealing with an infestation after the fact.

Fleas can cause:
🐾 Itching and discomfort
🐾 Flea allergy dermatitis
🐾 Skin infections
🐾 Tapeworms
🐾 Anemia in severe cases

And ticks can carry diseases that affect both pets and people.

The good news is there are more options available than ever before. If remembering a monthly preventative is a challenge, talk with your veterinarian! In addition to monthly products, there are now longer-lasting options available, including injectable flea and tick prevention that can provide protection for up to a year.

Whether your dog is hiking trails, exploring the farm, running around the neighborhood, or simply hanging out in the backyard, keeping them protected is one of the easiest ways to help keep them healthy.

As someone who spends my days caring for dogs, both in boarding and veterinary medicine, I want to do everything I can to help keep your pups safe, healthy, and parasite-free. ❤️🐾

✨ A Small Update from Finding Dori ✨

At some point I looked at my phone and realized I had over 20,000 dog photos. 😅 That’s when it hit me that I probably have more pictures of boarding dogs than my own kids 🫣, so it felt like a good time to simplify things a bit.

As I get back into the swing of things after my surgery and prepare for another busy summer, I've been making a few adjustments behind the scenes to help things run a little smoother and create a better balance between work, family, and everything in between.

As Finding Dori has grown over the years, I've realized that I'd rather spend less time behind my phone and more time focused on the dogs in my care. While I know everyone loves receiving photos and updates (and I love sharing them!), keeping up with multiple updates throughout each stay often takes time away from being fully present with the pups themselves.

With that in mind, moving forward, you can expect one update midway through your dog(s)' stay. In that update, I'll let you know how your pup(s) have been doing and include a few photos.

Of course, if something fun or noteworthy happens, I may still send additional photos, and if there are ever any concerns, questions, or health-related issues, I will always contact you right away.

Thank you all for your understanding and continued trust. My goal has always been to provide a safe, loving, personalized experience for your dogs, and this change allows me to focus even more of my time and energy on doing exactly that. ❤️🐾

It’s wild looking back at photos and videos of this space from when I was first getting started years ago and seeing just how blank and plain it once was. Little by little, it’s transformed into what it is today. 🤎

My goal was always to create a welcoming space with a cozy rustic-country feel where dogs could learn, play, and feel at home. I’ve poured so much into this space over the years, and seeing how far it’s come is really special. 🐾
