Forseti is HOME after a long journey! 🇮🇸✈️🇺🇸❤️
On Saturday, October 10th, Export Hestar picked Forseti up in Sauðárkrókur in northern Iceland and transported him to their barn in Mosfellsbær in southwest Iceland. This is where he receives his passport and begins the final steps of his preparation for the journey to the USA.
The day before his flight, he was examined by a veterinarian and received his first approval confirming that he was fit to travel. He was then examined by MAST, the Icelandic authority responsible for overseeing animal health and welfare, which must also approve him as fit to fly.
On the morning of his flight, Export Hestar loaded him up once again and transported him to the airport. There, he underwent one final check and received the last approval before being loaded into the specialized horse container and onto the plane.
Forseti left Iceland early Wednesday morning, October 14th, and traveled back in time 😉, arriving at JFK just before 7 a.m.!
From there, he was transported to The ARK at JFK, where he entered quarantine for 48 hours while awaiting final clearance from the USDA to continue his journey home.
And that brings us to Friday, October 16th, when Lee and I drove down to JFK to pick him up. Once again, he loaded up and hit the road!
Friday evening, Forseti’s long journey finally came to an end as he arrived at his NEW HOME! ❤️
A whole new world awaits him, and he is already settling in beautifully and soaking up all the attention from everyone. 🥰
Tomorrow, Monday, he’ll meet his USA veterinarian and begin his core vaccinations as he starts the next chapter of his life here.
What a journey this boy has had! So many miles, so many checks and approvals, and so many people involved in getting him safely here. Now it’s time to settle in, enjoy his new surroundings, and let the adventures begin!
Welcome home, Forseti! We’re so happy you’re here! 🐴❤️
