It has been some time, so we wanted to share an update and sincerely thank our clients, friends, and family for your continued support. 🤝

When Fernandez Veterinary Services was founded in 2024, our guiding mantra was, “Without risk, there is no reward.” We took a deliberate step toward building a nontraditional veterinary business that aligned with our family’s goals, and it proved to be a worthwhile decision. In 2025, amid both challenges and successes, our mantra shifted to, “What is meant for me, will be.” By trusting that principle, we found ourselves rewarded once again, reinforcing our belief that what is meant for you will endure, and what is not will naturally fall away, making room for what lies ahead.

In 2025, Dr. Laura provided small animal veterinary relief services to nine clinics over the course of 65 days in total, while also taking a four-month maternity leave. Dr. Anthony continued working as a small animal associate veterinarian in private practice and completed 17 farm calls through FVS, providing spinal medical manipulation and laser therapy. We also consistently mentored three new graduate veterinarians, one of whom practices emergency medicine overnight. Supporting her in real time (often in the middle of the night!) has been a unique and rewarding experience, including a very memorable, early-morning tail amputation consult, conducted via video chat, while holding our new baby. 🙂

We maintained our partnership with Wuffes, a joint supplement company, and attended our first “mega-conference,” the Western Veterinary Conference in Las Vegas. There, we reconnected with colleagues, met fellow veterinary influencers, and expanded our knowledge through a variety of educational lectures. We were also honored to attend the 2025 RUSVM Commencement Ceremony, where we celebrated our friends and mentees, as they officially became Doctors of Veterinary Medicine. On a personal note, we welcomed our son, and our family of five now feels complete. ❤️

Looking forward, 2026 is already shaping up to be our busiest year yet, with 60 relief days booked from January through April across 12 clinics! We are truly humbled by the outreach we’ve received and remain confident that what is meant for us will continue to unfold. 💙 Our success would not be possible without the veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and industry representatives who have shared our services through word of mouth. Thank you as well to the clinic owners, managers, and staff who trust us to support your practices. 🤝

We haven’t settled on this year’s mantra just yet—time will tell. Our current motivational song is “Backup Plan” by Bailey Zimmerman and Luke Combs. 🎶

In the coming months, you can expect more educational and fun content from us, along with upcoming monthly specials for our equine services. Thank you for reading and for being part of our journey.

Sincerely,
Dr. Laura and Dr. Anthony
AKA “The Doctors Fernandez” 🙂

Did you know that we offer in-home laser therapy for canines and felines in the Greater Lima region? 🚨 Laser therapy is an all-natural, drug-free method to decrease inflammation and pain. It is particularly effective for orthopedic conditions and skin/ear issues. 🐶 Fernandez Veterinary Services utilizes a Class IV Laser, which is different from the "Red Light Therapy" lasers you may see for sale online. Class IV lasers possess stronger power, longer wavelengths, and deeper tissue pe*******on. Because of that, fewer sessions are required to achieve results compared to Red Light Therapy. Contact us today to schedule a consultation for your pet to receive Class IV Laser Therapy! ❤️

Dr. Anthony and Dr. Laura would like to introduce their newest bundle of joy, their son, Desmond! 🤍 Desi is almost 2 months now, and everyone is healthy and doing great! 😊

Dr. Anthony is back to work full time as a small animal associate veterinarian during the week + continuing his chiropractic adjustments and laser therapy sessions on horses during select evenings and weekend days! 🐴 🐎

Dr. Laura is currently open for in-home, small animal, laser therapy sessions. 🐶🐱 She is opening her veterinary relief schedule to clinics in Ohio, starting in October. Please reach out now if you have any future needs, especially in Nov-Dec.

The Doctors Fernandez also continue to mentor vet students and new graduate vets from afar! 📲

We have paused a bit with other ventures, like social media content creation, but will be starting that back up eventually. ☺️ Thanks to our family, friends, and clients for your support!! YEAR 1 in business has been a success! ☺️

I’m feeling immense gratitude today, as I complete my last routinely scheduled relief shift at Blanchard Valley Veterinary Clinic! I started on my vet relief journey last July, and BVVC has been a constant for me since then. Amidst the uncertainty of relief-life, and my ever-changing schedule, I have been at BVVC for the majority of Thursdays, for the last 11 months. It has been a beautiful, symbiotic relationship, as I have been able to help them during their time of need, and they have helped provide me some stability as a relief vet. BVVC is hiring two new associate vets this summer, and they are so deserving of that! With the addition of 2 more full-time veterinarians, they will not need my weekly help anymore. I will still hopefully see them from time to time, if one of their vets needs to take some time off. 🙂 My last day here has fallen right before my maternity leave, and it is working out so perfectly.

BVVC has been a great place to spend so much of my time this last year. It has provided me with the opportunity to assist in laparoscopic surgeries, perform a splenectomy using a Ligasure, use a video otoscope for the first time while removing an aural polyp, and most importantly, continue practicing the highest quality of veterinary medicine. BVVC is not only a clinic with “all the bells and whistles”. They also always recommend the appropriate diagnostics prior to treatments, rather than making treatment plans based on educated guesses. They recommend the highest quality of care, but also present treatment plans that include a spectrum of care. They care about the well-being of the pets, and keep their hospitalized cats in a completely separate area from the dogs. The dogs recovering from surgery have calming music playing for them, and both the dog and cat recovery rooms are set at a warmer temperature than the rest of the hospital to aid in preventing hypothermia during recovery. The practice owner, Dr. Tony Fuller, invests in his associates greatly, as he gives them funding to pursue additional certifications based on their interests, and then follows through by providing them the equipment they need to practice those special interests, AND makes sure that those services are advertised to the public. Because of this, Dr. Kara Schmidt has been able to bring cutting-edge laparoscopic techniques to Findlay, Ohio, and she even found herself at a CE recently in which she had more hands-on experience with laparoscopy than some of the board-certified surgeons she was working alongside. Also because of this support, Dr. Tyler Fields is well known for his expertise in Exotics and Small Mammals, and routinely performs treatments and surgeries on rabbits, snakes, and other cool creatures! Practice owner, Dr. Fuller has taken advanced education in abdominal ultrasound, and is able to perform thorough, diagnostic ultrasounds for pets in the community. No need for these patients to go to bigger cities - adrenal masses and subtle organ changes can be found right here in the small town of Findlay, Ohio. 😉

The remainder of the staff is top notch in educating and communicating with clients, providing estimates for treatment plans, gathering great histories, and my favorite thing of all: presenting histories with the pet’s signalment first! (haha IYKYK). They are also trained to take orthogonal views in every radiograph. I have been able to place so much trust in the vet nurses here, and it has been wonderful to just be able to just “be the doctor” here. It is truly a well-run clinic, and oh yes, I forgot to mention, the record-keeping here is amongst the best I’ve seen. In addition to thorough record-keeping, their systems put in place to reduce errors is great. They have a great LEADERSHIP TEAM that consists of employees from all positions - not just an owner and practice manager, but someone to represent all aspects of the clinic - an associate vet, a vet tech, and a receptionist/CSR. How awesome is that? Also, their management team meets WEEKLY to discuss what works, what isn’t working, and all things clinic-related. I have learned so many things being here at BVVC that I will take into my future. 🫶🏼

From a personal standpoint, I have had some things happen to me in this past year. One Thursday morning, my mom got into a pretty scary car accident, and I was unable to come in that morning, and they were so caring and understanding. Another Thursday morning, I thought I had morning sickness (turns out it was a stomach bug), and they canceled my afternoon appointments and had me go home, even though I was going to try to stick it out. I have also asked on relatively short notice to leave early to take my daughters Trick-or-Treating, and to come in late so that I could make my daughter’s Pre-K graduation. As a relief vet, I always feel like I need to “be there” for the clinics I provide services to. I never want to leave them high and dry - they are relying on me to be present and healthy. However, BVVC has also acknowledged my humanity, and I never once felt like these things that came up were an inconvenience for them. I was always met with respect and kindness.

So a big THANK YOU, and “see you later” to this awesome clinic!! Thanks for a great year! 🙂
