Lily Dale Pet Cemetery

Lily Dale Pet Cemetery The Lily Dale Pet Cemetery honors our beloved pets that have crossed over to Spirit. This unfortunate event initiated the beginning of the Pet Cemetery.

The Lily Dale Pet Cemetery began on February 13, 1900 when a most unfortunate accident occurred. Workers were" Ice Farming" on Cassadaga Lake, which was a common industry for the Western New York Lakes during that time. The story has been told that while harvesting the ice, the ice broke through and a beautiful span of horses drowned. These horses could not be successfully rescued because of the

heavy iron scrapers that held them down. These horses were eventually taken from the icy waters and transported up South Street to the Leolyn Woods and buried. For Topsy, a beloved pet and worker of Lily Dale and the Brown Horse fell through the ice that day to be buried in the now Lily Dale Pet Cemetery. Since that day the Lily Dale Pet Cemetery has honored the spirits of many cherished pets of Lily Dale residents from the 1900’s to the present day. Today the Pet Cemetery can no longer accommodate the burial of pets, but continues to honor loved pets that have passed to Spirit with monuments, statues and Pet Remembrance Board.
