Sweet Norman has been working hard on cooperative care training to help make veterinary visits less stressful and more positive! 💙

In this video, we’re practicing desensitization for vaccines using a “pinch-poke” cue — helping Norman learn what to expect before an injection and rewarding calm, relaxed behavior along the way. This type of training helps build trust, confidence, and a more comfortable experience at the vet for our furry friends. 🦴✨

Cooperative care allows pets to have a voice in their care and can make future visits safer and less stressful for everyone involved. We are so proud of Norman for all his hard work! 👏🐶

Dogs will be dogs… even when they work at the clinic (kind of) 😅🐾

One of our own tech’s pups decided to put our skills to the test by getting a Woof ball stuck around their lower jaw. What started as playtime quickly turned into a “hey guys… can you help?” moment.

While it might look a little funny, situations like this can become stressful fast. Toys that are too small or the wrong shape can get caught around the jaw, behind teeth, or even cause injury if pets panic.

The good news? This sweet (and slightly embarrassed) clinic kid is doing just fine and back to supervised playtime only 😂

A few quick reminders:
• Always choose appropriately sized toys
• Supervise play, especially with new toys
• If something gets stuck, don’t force it—seek veterinary help

Even the pros need a little help sometimes 💙

Today we celebrate National Rescue Dog Day 🐾💙

Rescue dogs may come with a past, but they also come with endless love, resilience, and loyalty. Whether they’re shy, silly, or full of energy, each one has a story worth honoring.

Below is Sherman’s story. He is owned by one of own technicians and although his story isn’t perfect it is still so important to share!

“He came to us at about a year and a half old, already on his third home. After being given up young and quickly adopted again, he didn’t get the guidance he needed and started to develop some behavioral challenges. When we first met him, he was an exuberant, incredibly smart boy with so much potential—but also some struggles.

As he settled in, we saw more of who he really was. Sherman is deeply loyal and protective, especially of me, but he also struggled with confidence. That uncertainty showed up in ways that made life harder for him—around new people, men, and small children. He wasn’t the “easy” dog.

But he was our dog.

We made the commitment to him because he deserved a chance to feel safe, understood, and supported. Through obedience training, patience, and time, we built an inseparable bond. Today, he’s my constant protector and my husband’s favorite cuddle buddy.

Sherman isn’t the dog for everyone—but he was exactly the right dog for us.”

Sherman was adopted from Players for Pits, NFP, in Chicago.

Rescue dogs don’t need perfect homes. They need the right homes—ones willing to meet them where they are and help them grow. Dogs like Sherman deserve that chance.
