These last few months have been some of the craziest I’ve walked through in a long time - being pulled in several different directions with my heart wanting to be fully present for them all.
At the beginning of the year I launched my nutrition coaching practice - something I’ve been building up the courage to do for years. Since I was in a slower season for HLF, I was able to really invest some time into it and my new clients.
Then summer hit, and for the first time since my girls were babies, I was working from home full time with them right there with me. It was wonderful but heavy at the same time.
In May, a long-time customer and dear business friend approached me offering to buy Happy Little Flame, as she said it appeared I was heading in a different direction. It felt like an answered prayer.
We drew up an agreement and began exploring what it might look like for me to pass the torch. Things got serious and as we got close to our closing date in August, she backed out. Understandably, she just didn’t have the time or capacity to invest in the business in this season of life. And just like that, I was thrown back into running the business, right at the beginning of candle season.
At first I was frustrated and angry and unsure of why this whole thing even happened. I had begun making changes and plans, and then the rug got pulled out from under me.
After lots of prayer, I decided to set my coaching practice aside and focus on HLF for the remainder of the year. Even with my new monthly drop structure, I found myself giving about 95% of my time and energy to HLF with seasonal demand, wholesale accounts, and fundraisers. To be honest, it stung a little at first, but I realized that there is something I really, REALLY love about this season, candle making, and my customers. It’s magical and incredibly fulfilling.
So I’m thankful and I’m frustrated. I’m blessed and I’m overwhelmed. Both are true, and I don’t think God asks me to pretend otherwise.
I had a plan. It was a good plan. But I’m learning to hold it with open hands. I don’t fully understand this season yet, but I’m choosing to trust that nothing here is wasted.
