It’s never too early to start making puppy plans! We have had a lot of inquiries about our 2027 breedings, so here’s a bit of a primer for those interested.
Our plans are always subject to change, but currently we are hoping to have three litters in 2027. The girls we plan to breed are Strix, Phoenix, and Starling. While it’s impossible to predict seasons, we loosely expect to breed Strix in winter (late 2026 or early 2027), and Phoenix and Starling sometime in the spring or early summer.
Strix is an incredibly accomplished Mudi who has proven her versatility time and time again. She is an adaptable, very stable girl who transitions easily between households, travels very well, and generally enjoys most dogs and people she meets. Strix produced a fabulous litter of boys with Marvelous Mudi’s Guba in 2025, and we are thrilled with the way those puppies are maturing. Strix is OFA excellent, with normal results otherwise except spine; she does have LTV but is asymptomatic. We are still deciding on a stud for Strix, and we will likely import semen from Europe for this litter. Litter theme: TBD 🌚
Phoenix will be bred to Dune for her first litter (and his!). We expect puppies from this cross that are tenacious and hard workers, but full of humor and very happy, stable dogs like both Phoenix and Dune are. Phoenix has shown amazing drive on livestock from a very early age, and Dune is one of the more naturally gifted, confident workers we’ve had here on the farm. He covers like a dream and readily pushes into stubborn livestock. Phoenix is also a bang-up agility dog, loves frisbee, barnhunt, and flyball. Phoenix is OFA Good Hips, normal otherwise. Dune is OFA Excellent Hips, normal otherwise except that he is LTV1. We expect black and brown puppies with tails and natural bobs. We would like to see this litter placed in working homes and we will prioritize working and sport placements. Finally, we plan to breed our beautiful Starling for her first litter. Starling is an Irish import and a stunning representation of the breed. She is a darling of a dog – incredibly stable and social in most all environments. She has excelled in “fancy show dog stuff” earning placements from her early puppy days on, including an Award of Merit at the MCA’s first regional specialty. Starling is also in training to be a search & rescue mantrailing dog. She absolutely loves tracking and has shown a lot of proficiency early on in this training. Starling is very self-motivated and enjoys jobs that let her make her own decisions. Star is also an easy going, well-traveled dog who is easily handled by strangers. Starling is OFA Good Hips, normal otherwise. We intend to breed Starling to a European stud dog with imported semen, and we will announce more details about this pairing closer to the breeding date. These puppies will NOT be eligible for AKC Conformation, but can play sports. Litter theme: Butterflies 🦋
