You’d think a lady with ears this fabulous would hear her owner calling her home!

This sweet girl took herself on an unscheduled adventure and was picked up running loose on Dale Drive this afternoon. Now we’re hoping to help her find her way back where she belongs.

If you’re missing her, please come in during business hours or call Animal Services at 859-255-9033 ext. 233.

As the weather warms up, we want to remind everyone that it is illegal to leave an animal in a situation likely to result in harm — and that absolutely includes hot cars.

In a case from last year, we responded to a concerned citizen’s call and located a dog named Zeus showing signs of heat distress. Zeus was safely removed from the vehicle, and his owner, Betty Lay, was charged under Lexington’s Care and Treatment ordinance.

Ms. Lay was later found guilty in court.

We’re grateful to the community members who speak up when animals are in danger, neglected, or abused — your calls truly make a difference. Heat stroke can be fatal, and we’ve seen far too many cases end in tragedy.

Please remember: even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a vehicle can rise dangerously fast within minutes.

If you see an animal in Lexington that needs help, please contact our dispatcher at 859-255-9033.

When a church library had an unexpected visitor, they called us to help. We were able to safely remove this squirrel from the library and relocate him outside.

Just another day in the life of an animal control officer — helping every kind of visitor, even the unexpected ones.

Case Update: Rasin

Remember Raisin? Raisin was found as a stray in 2024 in an emaciated condition. During her time at the shelter, she gained weight and was adopted into a new home. Unfortunately for Raisin, she was later returned to the shelter in 2025 after being starved… that’s right — twice.

The adopter, Taylor Glover, was charged by our cruelty investigator with Cruelty to Animals in the Second Degree for subjecting Raisin to cruel neglect and mistreatment by failing to provide adequate food and proper care to maintain a normal body condition.

We are happy to report that Ms. Glover has entered a guilty plea in this case, and that Raisin has finally found the loving home she deserves and is now thriving!

Raisin’s story is one of resilience and serves as another reminder that no innocent animal deserves to suffer.

Abuse and neglect of animals will not be tolerated in our community. If you see something, say something. To report suspected animal cruelty in Fayette County: 859-255-9033.

Here’s an update on the puppies taken in yesterday — after receiving fluids, small frequent meals, a much-needed bath, nail trims, and flea treatment, these little ones are already looking brighter and feeling more comfortable.

We are still looking for any leads or tips regarding who had these puppies in their custody and/or who may have dumped them yesterday. If you have any information, please contact our cruelty investigator at 859-255-9033 extension 229.

If you’d like to help support the stray, surrendered, and cruelty case animals in our care, you can donate items from our Amazon wish list:

From yesterday to today, the difference is already incredible!
