It's HOT!! Take extreme care with your pets in this weather! Remember, an estimated 50% of heat stroke dogs do not survive, even with treatment. Prevention is key!
1. Only go on short walks, and only early morning and late evening, and stay in the shade as much as possible.
2. Even young, healthy dogs can get heat stroke if exercised in the heat, even if they are used to lots of exercise.
3. Signs of heat stress (you may see just one or two of these): excessive panting, hanging head, drooling, slowing down on walks, refusing to walk, red mucus membranes, diarrhea or vomiting, collapse
4. If you think your pet is overheated, move them to a cool area, pour cool (not cold) water on their neck and abdomen (It's a good idea to keep a water bottle with you for this purpose), and get them to the vet immediately. Do NOT put them in ice water.
5. Keep animals inside if possible. If they do not have access to the indoors, they need plenty of water and deep shade.
6. Be aware of hot concrete/cement that can burn foot pads.
7. Do not leave your dog in your car. Just do not do it. We see more deaths from this than anything else.

Let's have a fun and safe summer, everyone!

Lost or Abandoned Dogs Found – Help Needed! 🚨

Two dogs have been found wandering in the cold in a rural area around Mt Sterling, and we’re trying to determine if they are lost or were sadly dumped. These friendly, sweet pups need help finding their way home—or a safe place if no one comes forward.

We do not have the dogs at our clinic, but if you recognize them or have any information, please call or text Heather at 859-749-8147 or Jennifer at 859-300-1628 as soon as possible.

Please share to spread the word. 🐾
