Grayson funded university Virginia Tech's Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center shares a moment with a critical foal.

A mare came to the Virginia Tech's Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in February with a sick foal. Our clinician recognized her on sight, because she'd saved that same mare's life as a newborn, seven years earlier! 🐴

Continentalcongres. Born in crisis. Grew up to race. Came home to give birth. And brought her filly right back to the team that started it all.

Be wary of the tick this season.

Ticks can be small, but the health risks they pose to our horses can be significant. As warmer weather brings increased tick activity, it’s a great time to stay proactive with prevention and know what signs to watch for.

Check out the University of Minnesota Extension Equine Extension Program’s helpful tips and tricks for keeping ticks at bay—and for recognizing signs of tick-borne illness in your own equine friend.

Early prevention, daily observation, and prompt veterinary care can go a long way in protecting the health and wellbeing of our horses. 💙

Tick season is here, and protecting your horses is important. Ticks can spread illnesses like Lyme disease and anaplasmosis, but a few simple steps can help reduce the risk.

🐴 Check horses regularly for ticks and remove them promptly.
🌿 Keep pastures and fence lines trimmed, clear away brush, and limit access to wooded areas where ticks thrive.
🛡️ Use horse-safe topical insecticides labeled for tick control before turnout or trail riding through tall grass and brush. Be sure to carefully follow all label directions and warnings.

Prevention is one of the best ways to keep your horses healthy this season!
