🐾💙 Common Signs of Pain in Pets 💙🐾
Pets don’t always show pain in obvious ways. As a survival instinct, many animals hide discomfort until it becomes more severe. Learning to recognize subtle changes can help you identify when your pet may need support.
🐶🐱 Common signs of pain may include:
• Decreased activity or reluctance to play
• Difficulty standing, walking, climbing stairs, or jumping
• Limping or favoring a leg
• Changes in appetite or drinking habits
• Sleeping more than usual or seeming less interested in activities
• Hiding or withdrawing from family members
• Increased restlessness or difficulty getting comfortable
• Whining, crying, or unusual vocalization
• Changes in posture, such as a hunched back or tucked tail
• Licking, chewing, or guarding a specific area of the body
• Irritability or sensitivity when touched
• Changes in grooming habits, especially in cats
❤️ Remember: A pet doesn’t have to cry out to be in pain. Small changes in behavior, mobility, or daily routines can be important clues that something isn’t right. If you notice changes in your pet, recognizing the signs early can help improve comfort, mobility, and overall quality of life.

We are so happy to have Dr Reichle as a part of our family!

🐾 Please join us in welcoming Dr. Maria Reichle to our veterinary family! 🩺💙

Dr. Reichle grew up in Pittsboro, NC, and knew from an early age that veterinary medicine was where she belonged. Her passion began all the way back in second grade, after attending NC State’s College of Veterinary Medicine Open House! 🐶🐱

She went on to earn both her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from NC State University. And while she grew up as an avid Tar Heel fan, she admits that her years at NC State officially converted her to the Wolfpack! 🐺❤️

Dr. Reichle has a special interest in dentistry and surgery and loves working through cases that help pets feel better and improve their quality of life. She is also passionate about preventative care and educating pet owners on the best ways to keep their pets happy and healthy through every stage of life.

One of the things Dr. Reichle values most is building lasting relationships with her clients and patients. She strives to create a compassionate, low-stress experience for pets and their families while providing the highest quality care.

Outside of work, Dr. Reichle enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and quite the crew of fur-babies! She and her fiancé, Darrin, share their home with two dogs, two cats, and a bunny. 🐕🐕🐈🐈🐇 She also loves traveling and is excited to start building a hobby farm in the near future!

We are so excited to have Dr. Reichle joining our team and can’t wait for our clients and patients to get to know her. ❤️

Please help us give Dr. Reichle a big welcome in the comments! 🎉🐾

🐾💙 September is Pain Awareness Month! 💙🐾
Our pets are experts at hiding discomfort, and sometimes the signs of pain can be subtle. They may not always cry, limp, or show obvious signs that something is wrong - many pets simply change their behavior in ways that are easy to miss.
🐶🐱 Pain can look like:
• Sleeping more or being less active
• Difficulty getting up, climbing stairs, or jumping
• Changes in appetite or grooming habits
• Becoming more withdrawn or less social
• Irritability or sensitivity when touched
• Licking or chewing at a certain area
• Reluctance to play or participate in favorite activities
Recognizing pain early can help improve your pet’s comfort, mobility, and quality of life. Whether it’s a sudden injury, dental discomfort, arthritis, or another underlying condition, your pet deserves to feel their best.
❤️Throughout September, we’ll be sharing information to help you recognize the signs of pain, understand common causes, and learn how we can work together to keep your pets comfortable.
🐾 Stay tuned for more Pain Awareness Month education!

Ear Care 101: Keeping Your Pet’s Ears Healthy

🐶🐱Regular ear cleaning can help keep your pet’s ears healthy and comfortable - but using the right technique is important!

A few quick tips:
🧴 Use a veterinarian-recommended ear cleaner
💧 Apply cleaner as directed and gently massage the base of the ear
🧼 Wipe away debris with cotton balls or gauze
🚫 Never use cotton swabs inside your pet’s ear canal

If you notice redness, swelling, odor, discharge, or signs of discomfort, your pet may need more than a cleaning. Ear infections can be painful, so give us a call if something doesn’t look or smell right!
Check out our step-by-step guide below to learn how to safely clean your pet’s ears at home. 🐾

🐾 Skin Care Tips & Tricks: Helping Your Itchy Pet Feel Their Best 🐶🐱Healthy skin starts with a little extra care!

If your pet is prone to itching, these simple tips can help support their skin health and keep them more comfortable:
🧴 Use veterinarian-recommended shampoos and skin care products
🛁 Bathe your pet as directed—overbathing can dry out the skin
🐾 Wipe paws after outdoor adventures to help remove allergens
🌿 Stay consistent with flea and parasite prevention
👂 Keep an eye on ears, paws, and skin for changes
🥣 Follow your veterinarian’s recommendations for nutrition and supplements

Remember, itching is a symptom - not a diagnosis.
If your pet is constantly scratching, licking, chewing, or showing signs of skin irritation, it may be time to find out what’s causing the problem. See below for more tips to help your pet’s skin stay healthy and comfortable! ❤️

💊 Medication Spotlight: Finding Relief for Itchy Pets

🐾There isn't a one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to itchy skin. Depending on the cause of your pet's discomfort, your veterinarian may recommend different medications or skin care products to help provide relief.

✨ This month, we're highlighting some of the treatment options we commonly use:
🐶 Apoquel® – Helps quickly relieve itching associated with allergic skin disease.
💉 Cytopoint® – A long-lasting injection that targets itch at its source and can provide relief for weeks.
🌿 Zenrelia® – A once-daily tablet designed to help manage itching caused by allergies.
🧴 DOUXO® Skin Care Products – Medicated shampoos, mousses, and wipes that help support the skin barrier while managing bacteria, yeast, and irritation.
❤️ Atopica® – An immunomodulating medication that helps manage allergic skin disease by addressing the underlying immune response.

Every pet is different, which is why the best treatment depends on their individual needs and the underlying cause of their itching. If your pet has been scratching, licking, or chewing more than usual, we're here to help develop a treatment plan that's right for them.
