Recent news reports have raised awareness of Bobcat Fever, Cytauxzoonosis, in domestic cats. This is a disease that is transmitted from wild felines, such as Bobcats, to domestic cats via a tick bite. While wild felines can be chronically infected without showing signs of illness, this disease is often deadly to our feline pets. Monthly tick prevention is crucial to preventing this disease.
We recommend Revolution or Nexgard Combo for our feline patients.

The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine is advising that all dogs should be vaccinated for Leptospirosis annually. The statement by the ACVIM states, "Vaccines should be administered annually to all dogs starting at 12 weeks of age, regardless of breed, because leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease, can be severe or fatal despite treatment, and exposure can occur regardless of age, geography, or lifestyle." Contact us with any questions regarding your dog's vaccine status.

Toxin Tuesday!

Friendly reminder: just because something is natural doesn't mean it's safe for pets. Many essential oils including tea tree, peppermint, eucalyptus, cinnamon, & citrus oils can be toxic to dogs through inhalation, skin contact, or ingestion.

Symptoms to look out for:
*upset stomach
*respiratory issues

Essential oils ARE NOT a safe alternative to flea & tick prevention. They carry high risk of toxicity.

This week we are celebrating Missi's anniversary as part of the Southland Vet Team. Since that first day in May of 1996 she has been a vital part of our organization. I am so very grateful for her kindness, diligence and patience.
