We are kicking off the spotlights on our veterinary assistants who play a vital role in the practice.

Today we have Cameryn!

Cameryn joined EMA early 2025 after previously working as a foaling assistant and foreman on a standardbred farm. She always liked horses and grew up going to Churchill Downs with her family. This passion followed her and she graduated the University of Kentucky with a degree in Equine Science. In her free time, she sculpts and paints custom model horses, watches the races at Red Mile, or just hangs out at home with her cats.

We are so lucky to have Cameryn!

We are excited to announce the addition of an advanced imaging modality to our practice. We are now offering Ultrasound Tissue Characterization. This technology offers in depth analysis on the health of tendon and ligament fibers. It is useful in rehabilitation cases, and guides us in getting each horse back to competing. The technology provides more information than a traditional ultrasound in that it analyzes a 3D generated image and provides information on the health and structural integrity of the fibers. It is most useful in helping us gauge when to increase or decrease training intensity. We are offering this service in both the Ocala and Lexington areas.

Dr. Lyman, Dr. Eisaman, and Veterinary Assistant Jonah Hopf are pictured conducting ultrasound-guided sacroiliac (SI) injections

The sacroiliac joint plays a crucial role in a horse’s ability to generate power and engage their hindquarters. SI pain can manifest as decreased propulsion of the hind end, difficulty maintaining a frame or lead, reduced performance without obvious lameness, or changes in the quality of gaits.

The ultrasound is used to allow the veterinarian to visualize the needle as it enters the SI joint, giving more confidence in correct placement of the medication.

Typically, a corticosteroid is injected into the SI joints to reduce inflammation and discomfort in the area.

Today we remember the heroes’, victims, and their families on the 25th anniversary of the attacks on September 11, 2001. May we never forget the strength that so many possessed on that fateful day. May we all take a moment to observe the sacrifices made by those in the planes, in the towers, at the Pentagon, in the field in Pennsylvania, and the many first responders, doctors, nurses, and people still working to identify the remains of victims- everyone affected.

This week, EMA is especially excited to be part of ISEET 2026, reconnecting with colleagues from around the world and immersing ourselves, right here in our own backyard, in a field we share a genuine passion for.

EMA’s commitment to both scholarly research and high-level clinical practice drives our ongoing engagement with the scientific equine reproductive community and its continual efforts in discovery, refinement, and innovation. As EMA continues to evolve, our practice is broadening the scope of reproductive techniques available within our clinical offerings, including transvaginal aspiration of mare oocytes (OPU/TVA) to support in vitro fertilization (IVF) and in vitro embryo production.

We look forward to exchanging information and perspectives with our colleagues at the forefront of equine reproduction - we’ll see many of you at the ISEET Scientific Program (Thurs. - Sat., the 20th - 22nd) and the Equine Reproduction Practitioners’ Day (Sun., the 23rd)!

TEAM MEMBER THURSDAY!

Today we are honored to shoutout Dr. Peggy Marsh, DVM, dip. ACVIM, dip. ACVECC!

Dr. Marsh is originally from California and spent her pre-veterinary life riding dressage and event horses. She graduated from UC Davis in 1992 and became board-certified in large animal internal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She was on the faculty at Texas A&M University and became board-certified in emergency and critical care. She calls Kentucky home, joined EMA in 2011, and when not working, enjoys spending time with her dog Hannah and cat Jane. She enjoys the different seasons that Kentucky has to offer, and loves capturing them!

Thank you for all that you do for us, Dr. Marsh! We are so thankful for you!
