Itโ€™s All About Balance โš–๏ธ

"I donโ€™t think adult amateurs are given enough credit for all that they balance, especially when working full-time. Most have careers and families, but we carve out the time to spend with our horses to train, compete, or even just spend time with them. Sometimes that means very early hours or very late hours at the barn, not being able to participate in events that happen during working hours, and missing out on other fun things because of scheduling. "

Here, an adult amateur and USEF 'r' Technical Delegate from USDF Region 9 touches on a topic that many of us horse people are still trying to master: work and life balance.

Working Hard but Not Moving Forward? โžก๏ธ

"At some point, I realized I had to take ownership of my learning - to decide what I was trying to achieve, and why. Perhaps it was frustration, or perhaps it was the influence of my day job, but eventually, I became serious about using goals to shape my riding."

In this story, author and dressage rider Sally O'Dwyer shares her best advice for tackling the pursuit of perfection in dressage: make small goals for big progress!

One Small Victory At A Time for Tucker ๐Ÿ…

"Today, we are working toward my USDF Bronze Medal together, a goal I never would have imagined for myself years ago. But perhaps more meaningful than the goal itself is how we are getting there: one ride at a time, one small victory at a time... Because when youโ€™ve had everything taken away, you learn quickly that nothing is guaranteed. Every day I get to swing a leg over Tuckerโ€™s back and settle into his saddle is a gift."

The ! ๐Ÿ‡ Throughout the month of May, we are featuring Thoroughbreds and Thoroughbred crosses. In this story, a rider located in USDF Region 6 shares the ups and downs of life with her Thoroughbred, Tucker Too, who was everything she didnโ€™t know she needed in a partner!

Clinic Report: Suzanne Galdun ๐Ÿ“

"Suzanne, who turns out to be a wizard, was able to quickly connect the dots between my hip issues and positional weaknesses... As a result of this work, my instructor, Leah, noticed that my tendency to balance and over-position with my left hand had vanished, as I was finally working with my right side more 'on-line.' Sorcery, right? Nope. Somehow, just biomechanics."

First appearing in the North Woods Dressage Association newsletter, "The Accent" (June 2025), this article was a nominee in the 2025 GMO Newsletter Awards for first-person experience articles for GMOs with 75-174 members. ๐ŸŽ–๏ธ

A Tale of Tails Part III: The Sweet & Sour of Silver ๐Ÿฅˆ

"Horses have always carried me back to myself, even when I was lost enough to forget who I was entirely. The gift of sobriety allowed me to return to the barn, but this journey with Bob has taught me how to stay present once I got there."

In this story, a seasoned YourDressage author from USDF Region 7 brings us along for part THREE of her journey - this time, sharing how she secured her USDF Silver Rider Medal against formidable odds.
