Harnessed Sensibility

With a heavy heart, Harnessed Sensibility is closing its doors, effective immediately (today December 27th, 2023).

Losing Rory has changed our lives in ways we didn't know were possible. It has been a wild 8.5 years. But now is just not the right time for this operation to continue.

I want to thank everyone for all the support over the years.

And perhaps, Harnessed Sensibility will re-open, and maybe even as something new in the future.

Have a dog that enjoys digging?

Give them appropriate ways to release this totally normal canine behavior. If providing a spot to dig outside is not an option (we use a raised garden bed in the back yard and our resident senior dog usually buries her treasures there), then this is a great way to provide safe fun and enrichment.

Plastic kiddie pool: $20 or less from places like Walmart, Petsmart, Tractor Supply, Target

Plastic balls for ball pits: ~$15 for 100 at target, etc, or amazon has 400 for $40.

We've collected a lot of toys, stuffies etc over the years, but you don't have to put in toys if you don't want to.

Throw a handful of kibble in the pool and let your pup(s) have a blast using their sniffers to go on a treasure hunt.

We use small-bite kibble cause it takes a bit more effort to find. We also scatter a handful or two around the house to provide equal opportunity to find snacks in our multi-animal household. Even the cat joins in on the hunt.

A diggy pit is especially useful on days where the heat is just a little much to be outside for too long.

Additionally, you can take the pool outside and add water (with or without the balls) for another source of enrichment and fun for your pups!

For those with dogs with resource guarding issues, this may not be ideal for enrichment purposes. Seek out your local trainer and/or canine behavior specialist for more assistance.

Hello! Long time, no post.

Life hit our founder hard, BUT this entire business is about to get revamped here in a couple of weeks!

New services will be added. The website is getting updated.

Liz and her partner just bought their first home with and she now has the space and the massive fenced in backyard to run this business how she wants to. She is just working on getting everything ready to go and settled in to the new space.

New services such as board and train options, doggy daycare (not overnight stays), and more will be added and pricing on services are being updated as well.

Please keep us in mind over the next few weeks and stay on the look out for these changes!

There are no such things as a certified service dog or registered service dog. Yes, you can be registered with an organization, so to say that organization certifies that you and your dog are up to, or exceeds, their standards for passing a public access test; however under the law, there is no universal standard for service dogs.

However, please read and understand the following excerpt:
"There's a lot more to a service dog than the outfit it wears. It typically takes 18-24 months to fully train a service dog. While individuals are permitted to train their own service dog, that doesn't mean they are automatically capable. If you do not already have experience doing advanced training with working dogs, then you do not have sufficient experience to train a service dog on your own."
