🐴 Truth or myth: a horse should have unlimited roughage? 👉 Not entirely.

A horse’s digestive system is designed to eat almost all day. In the wild, horses grazed for up to 16 hours a day on fibre-rich but relatively poor grasses and herbs. Chewing also stimulates saliva production, which helps neutralize stomach acid.

However, today’s roughage is often richer in energy and protein than it used to be. Unlimited roughage can therefore lead to excess energy intake, with risks such as overweight or laminitis.

✔️ adjusted to your horse’s energy needs,
✔️ divided into several small portions throughout the day.
