Yearling unicorn Grace and little Kaelie, two weeks old, on Saturday afternoon.

Weather conditions have just allowed Kaelie & Kurinka to graduate from small to large maternity corral (switching places with Ally, on foal watch), so Kaelie is now newly across the fence from a bunch of mares.

We’re delighted to share the news that Akhal-Teke mare Dory (Swan Ysk Doretmek (Kiergen x Sarka, 2019)) is pregnant by Akhal-Teke star stallion Adamek (Gindarkh x Agniya, 2005), with a positive heartbeat check earlier this week. 🎉

Dory was bred by Dr. Becky Funk at Virginia Tech, using cooled semen collected at the Select Breeders Services headquarters in Maryland, where Adamek is in residence getting quarantined collection and freezing for international distribution. 🐴

Thank you all to the professionals, volunteers, and contributors who have helped Dory reach this milestone toward her first foal! With gratitude also to Phil and Margot Case for breeding both Dory’s outstanding mate and her beautiful sire. 🙏

Three Akhal-Teke girls arriving at Virginia Tech for breeding on Monday afternoon, Delguli, Nazenin/Chapuys/Nina, and Kizy. ❤️

The ATF’s 2026 census of Akhal-Tekes in North America finds 132 potential mares for breeding, based on ages from 5 to 20, and including NFS carriers.

With 10-12 annual foals, and assuming a conservative 50% overall annual success rate, that suggests about two dozen of those mares are actually involved in active breeding attempts this year.

Here’s more than 10% of them walking down one hallway.
