I know I left this page on the backburner for ages (I've got plans coming soon though 👀) but I'd like to use it to reach out to help a dog family in need.

Mama dog had a litter nearby but avoided capture for months. Finally caught all four of them yesterday and now I need them to stay out of the shelter. Mom is 50+lbs. Some sort of terrier mix. Very good natured. The puppies are not people socialized but still young. Puppies are eating hard food and drinking water. I'll transport them as far as Austin if I must. Can everyone share if you can't take a dog?

It's been a while since I visited this page, and I wish I was coming back to it with some good news or literally anything more joyful, but I have very sad news to announce.

On Aug 31st, Silk Road's Marlowe (Merlot) passed away. She suffered two massive seizures, and only after she had passed was it discovered she had undiagnosed diabetes.

She was returned to me back in May due to a change in her family's situation. She had also developed some odd health concerns, mainly being a yeast infection and unexplained weight loss/diarrhea.

I couldn't understand how either had come about, and I'm still unsure as to how she developed diabetes (whether from the steroids she had been on, or genetics). The experience, though, was like a living nightmare. I can't even imagine how it felt for her to be suffering as she was.

Most days she seemed fine. Playful. Energetic. Always willing to eat. But that last month was her hardest. It was a draining time for both of us. It's hard to watch a dog that you raised from a tiny little pup reduce down to a skeleton.

She was beautiful. She was loved. She was everything I wanted to see in these dogs. I miss her. I wish I could have saved her sooner.

Beautiful Marlowe.

Eugh, okay, no videos. I thought I got something but all I recorded was Yukon p**ping hah! Here's Boston's Wisdom panel instead. I still need to get Cashmere Embarked. Wisdom is pretty spot on breed wise but the percentages I think are wrong. Especially the Chow and Sheltie. His tail is kind of otter, but it's way more whip like than Kelee's. I love his broad head, though.

It was really nice getting to meet with the family in person again and get a personal experience with the dog. Next on the schedule is training for lure coursing. Cashmere impresses everywhere she goes with her speed but we'll see what she can really do.

When I asked for an update, I was told he was 50lbs which really shocked me. I thought maybe the genetics had skipped him and he'd gone full borzoi just in an Afghan sized body. No, he's just fat, haha. He's Yukon sized but double wide. He is Kelee 100% personality wise, but more houndish in appearance. I am disappointed at how strong Yukon's genetics are. Not much of Kelee structure wise passed over. Her frame passed but that's about it. Whippet ears, whippet tail, borzoi coat, small round eyes... I appreciate the improved gait and spine, but it essentially just turned them into big, hairy whippets. Which is not what I was going for.

But, function and personality before aesthetics. And the function is exactly what I wanted. If Boston could drop about 20lbs I think he'd be a powerhouse of a runner. He couldn't keep up with his sister or mother, sadly. Aside from Cashmere who suffers from a perverse sense of "stranger danger" the other puppies range from overly social (Boston) to typical sighthound social (Bella).

The weird quirks that popped up were also unexpected. And the one that gets me THE WORST is the p**p eating. Apparently this is a thing among Silkens and it is definitely not my cup of tea. Yukon eats p**p, Cashmere eats p**p, Bella eats p**p. It's disgusting. Cashmere and Bella also regurgitate after drinking water, another of Yukon's. Boston got Kelee's ultra cleanliness quirk, but unlike Jasmine and Marlowe he doesn't have any texture sensitivity so that's good.

Got to meet with this big guy. Yup, that's London who was renamed to Boston lol. Jasmine and Bella are in Michigan so I can't meet them. Not sure of Marlowe as I have no more contact with the owner. It's okay, though! As long as they are living life well, and that they know I'm always here in any emergency.

I don't know if the video I took captured him with Cashmere but we'll see in a bit.

Yes, I am back from the dead. Just in time for Halloween 👻 The once tiny pups are nearly six months old. Time sure does fly.

I'll post some nice pics of Cashmere soon. She's as tall as Kelee now, but still twiggy. She's faster, too. Still not as fast as Yukon lol, but she turned out exactly as I needed her to. Quick *and* relentless. Yukon has been teaching her how to run, but it will be Kelee who teaches her how to hunt. Hopefully she'll get it. She's interested but she's kind of not understanding that she needs to bite to kill. She just, picks her lures up and then drops them. Only time can tell how she'll develop beyond this.

My other secret hope is that she'll get some muscle mass. It's kind of far fetched hah, but I've seen so many well built dogs and I've been turning green with envy lol. Even Kelee doesn't have those powerful haunch muscles, ugh. Definitely need more eggs, haha.

In other news, supposing Cashmere doesn't come into heat earlier, Yukon is next up to be neutered, hooray!! He's also been learning obedience, sort of. It's hard training a dog whose biggest response trigger is his leash lol. But he knows sit so far, so small victories!

The littles are all finally kennel trained. That was a nightmare. For a while there my life was just washing kennel trays and bathing dogs. But now dry floors are all I see. And lots of cat and dog hair. So much hair. It never ends.

In an unprecedented turn of events, Cashmere appears to be developing Kelee's "pants". 😳 I wonder if she'll get a head of hair too lol. This should be interesting.

I missed national dog day but around here everyday is national dog day haha. Tbh I've been super stressed and depressed about the state of wordly affairs and work hasn't been all that great either so I've just been enjoying the company of my doggos and trying to keep my mind in the present. *sigh*

PS, I miss London. He still has a short coat for some reason and he's getting chonk. He's also gigantic lol. I gotta find his photo.
