Hello!! Sorry I've been MIA lately...I've been struggling terrible with my leg pain due to my 2 failed knee replacements on my right knee π© So I'm having my 3rd here really soon...so please forgive my absence!
Anyway, let's talk about new Puppies!!πΆ It this the season π Besides the things I've already talked about with you...like choosing your pup with intention and not because their cute but won't fit your lifestyle, or because your kid begged for that breed, or because it's cute lil baby face & breath won you over...etc, etc. π
And to Never take one home younger then 8 weeks even older if possible so Momma can do what Mommas do before humans intervene. π€
Let's discuss how we should socialize our New Pup. Once your pup is old enough to get out in public, do it! Take your pup to the places that allow pets! That way people there can pet your pup and even hold it! There will also be other dogs there, which with a friendly one, you could introduce to your pup on a leash. The sooner the better!! What you don't want to do is take your pup to places where no one pets her and you carry her thru not allowing her any human or animal contact. By doing that, your telling that pup, your the Only Safe Place π«€ and that no one else can come to her! You can't make a Brave pet that way! You must be able to walk your pup on a leash thru strange places like pet stores and let them experience the smells, the people, the other dogs, the sounds...All Of It!!βΊοΈ That is how you will start building a strong, social, independent pup!! π
Also if you find that something scares them out there, Do Not Remove Them From The Situation!! Teach them that its ok and won't hurt them...first don't cuddle them or pet them! My motto "don't pet in, what you don't want to set in!!" Show them the item, or make the noise again and again by making a game out of it and reward with treats every time they stay with it and they will become more comfortable...once they make a bit of progress, praise, praise, praise and then leave and do that method all over again daily until they no longer react to whatever they were scared of. If you coddle or remove your pup from sounds, objects or anything they are scared or reactive about will end up becoming a huge problem you'll end up dealing with for the dogs entire life π΅βπ« Please don't make that mistake! Dogs deserve to thrive and be happy and live their best dog lives π₯°ππ
