The Barn Buddy (Working Cat) Program provides a second chance for rescue cats who, for various reasons, cannot adapt to an indoor-only lifestyle. This program offers them a safe and fulfilling life suited to their needs.
Who Makes a Good Barn Buddy?
Cats in the Barn Buddy Program include:
Strays assessed as unsuitable for indoor life.
Outdoor cats surrendered by owners who cannot transition to indoor living.
Friendly cats with litter-box issues.
Cats with a history of living outdoors.
Semi-feral adult cats who are too fearful of people for an indoor environment.
Why Choose a Barn Buddy?
While some Barn Buddies may not thrive as indoor pets, they can excel as working cats, offering companionship and reliable rodent control in exchange for a safe home. These cats are happiest when living primarily outdoors in an environment where they can roam freely while receiving the care they need.
Adopting two cats is often recommended, especially if they’re bonded or friendly with one another. Having a buddy helps them adjust, stay warm, and feel safe in their new environment. However, some cats prefer to live solo, so we’ll work with you to find the best match.
What You’ll Provide as a Barn Buddy Adopter:
Food, fresh water, and a warm shelter (like a barn, shed, or stable).
Safe accommodations away from busy roads, with cozy bedding like hay or blankets to protect them from weather and predators.
Ongoing care to keep your Barn Buddy healthy, including routine vaccinations, flea treatment, and deworming.
