As the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society looks towards the future, we are grateful for the dedicated individuals whose compassion, experience, and commitment help guide our work for pets and people throughout our community.

In that spirit, we are pleased to share this message from our Board of Directors:

It's my great pleasure to announce that Ken Schlichting has been promoted to the position of Executive Director of the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society. During the past four years serving as Operations Manager, Ken has been a strong asset to our team.

The Board of Directors believes his expertise will be of great value at the leadership level as our next Executive Director. Ken has always given our community, and its pets, his time and attention as the utmost priority, and he stands as a source of support for employees, volunteers and fosters at the shelter.

The Board is confident that Ken will succeed in his new position and ask that you join us in congratulating him on this exciting new role!

~ Denise T. Ouellette, GAHS Board President

Colocolo a sweet, gentle lady who is ready to trade shelter life for a calm home, cozy blankets, and a sunny window all her own. She’s looking for a family who will love her exactly as she is while helping her feel her very best along the way.

Having enjoyed living with older children previously, she may be a wonderful match for a quieter family with respectful older kids. Colocolo seems to prefer being the star of the show when it comes to feline roommates, though, and would likely be happiest as your one-and-only or with very slow, thoughtful introductions to another cat. We don’t know how she feels about dogs yet, so any canine introductions should be patient and carefully managed.

This fluffy queen recently received a shave, but don’t worry - her fabulous coat is growing back in! Her future family should be prepared to make daily brushing part of her routine to keep her comfortable and mat-free. Colocolo will also need multiple extra-large litter boxes with low sides that are easy for her to step into, kept especially clean for her comfort.

Colocolo is currently very overweight, and she needs an adopter who is ready to be her loving health-and-wellness teammate. That means measured meals, an appropriate diet, veterinary guidance, and plenty of encouragement as she works toward a healthier, more comfortable life. In return, she is ready to fill your home with sweetness, softness, and quiet companionship.

If you have room for a gentle cat who deserves a fresh start and you’re ready to offer comfy beds, scratching spots, sunny naps, daily grooming, and lots of love - Colocolo may be your girl!

Lillie first came to us in 2019 through one of our transfer partners, and she went on to spend many happy years in a loving home. Through no fault of her own, changes in her family’s circumstances meant they could no longer provide the care she deserved. Now, this sweet girl is back with us and hoping her next chapter leads to a happy new home.

She has previously lived happily with children and dogs, and Lillie truly enjoys being part of a family. She may be a little shy when she first meets someone new, but give her a little patience and kindness, and you’ll get to see the affectionate, loyal companion she is underneath.

Lillie spent much of her life enjoying the comfort of a yard rather than going on frequent leash walks, so she may need a little encouragement as she learns that new adventures can be fun, too. A home with a fenced yard or adopters who are happy to take things slowly while building her confidence could be a wonderful fit for her. We do not know how Lillie feels about cats.

We also want to be honest about her history: during a stressful period of transition in her previous home, Lillie had some inappropriate urination. We have not seen that behavior during her stay with us, but her new family should be prepared to give her time to adjust, maintain a consistent routine, and monitor how she is settling in.

Lillie may need more than one meet-and-greet before she feels comfortable. But for the person or family willing to offer patience, consistency, and a calm place to land, we believe Lillie has so much love waiting to be shared.

Could you be the safe, loving new beginning this deserving girl has been waiting for? 🐾 Stop by the shelter today to meet Lillie - and don’t forget that you see profiles for all of our available pets online! (Link in comments.)

Apollo was a star on ARC Maine this morning!

While he may have been completely mesmerized by belly rubs for much of the segment, Apollo is surprisingly energetic for a 9-year-old and ready to bring equal parts fun, affection, and couch-snuggle expertise to his new home.

A huge thank-you to WGME CBS 13 News, Portland for welcoming Ken and Apollo into the studio and helping us share this sweet boy with the community!
