We got a call for help, and we were able to answer. Why? Because of you—our donors—and because of our incredible foster families.

Ten puppies were born. Only three survived, and all three are still fighting. But that didn’t stop our foster Jess and her family from stepping in. On the very first day of her summer vacation, Jess said yes to three one-week-old puppies who need around-the-clock care and bottle feedings every two hours. She also said yes to the uncertainty and potential heartbreak that can come with taking on such fragile lives.

Hope was all she needed.

The how and why aren’t important right now. What matters is the now—and giving these little beans the very best chance at life.

Thank you to our donors, whose support allows us to step in during critical moments like this. And thank you to our foster families for their endless compassion and selflessness.

This is a terrible story and a tragic ending for a dog who had already been through so much. This happened right here in our state in Saugus, Massachusetts. If you recognize the person in this sketch or know any information, please speak up. Mama Maisie deserves justice🌈💔 NYC Second Chance Rescue

🐾 On Wednesday, June 10, Mama Maisie went to Hawkes Pond in Saugus, Massachusetts for what should have been a fun day with her foster mom and the rest of her pack.

While walking on a trail near the pond, an unknown man suddenly emerged from a dense wooded area where there was no marked trail. He began talking about the dogs and appeared friendly. He asked about Maisie and when he was told she was a French Bulldog mix, he bent down, picked her up and ran.

Her foster mom immediately chased after him, screaming for help, but he disappeared into a heavily wooded section of the pond off of the marked trail.

911 was called immediately. Saugus Police responded. News stations arrived. Within hours, volunteers, supporters, and complete strangers mobilized to help bring Maisie home.

Flyers were printed. Search teams flooded the area. Businesses were contacted for security footage. Social media was inundated with posts, shares, and pleas for help. People who had never met Maisie spent their day searching for her because they believed she deserved to be found.

The next day those efforts continued but at approximately 8 PM, as members of our team were driving to Boston to continue the search, we received the call that shattered all hope.

Mama Maisie had been found floating in the very pond she loved.

A dog who had already survived unimaginable cruelty before rescue. A dog who had every reason not to trust people, yet loved everyone she met anyway.

Today, we spent hours with detectives from the Saugus Police Department reviewing every possible detail. Photos and surveillance footage have been submitted, and there is now an active police investigation.

We have increased the reward to $10,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person responsible for Maisie's death.

We are heartbroken, exhausted and angry. But most of all, we are determined.

Someone knows who this man is. Someone knows what happened to Maisie. We will not stop and we will not go away until we get justice.
