The MN 50/50 show this weekend has my heart overflowing with happiness. What a blessing to have so many horses that were raised here come back and show. Spectators may see a pen of yearlings or a pen of two year olds showing, but the breeder sees a series of memories of what brought that particular horse to be; planning breeding crosses and securing contracts in the fall, crossing fingers that breeding season goes smoothly and results in a pregnancy, endless nights of little to no sleep to ensure presence during foaling, all of the special moments in that foal’s first few months of life that lead up to weaning and going off to their new home. Every single one of these memories flood into the breeder’s mind as they watch that horse show in the pen. That horse that started as a well thought out plan with hopes and dreams 2-3 years prior. Then, sometimes you are lucky enough to get to join in the show pen with a horse you held back for yourself. That’s what this weekend was for me.
