She still brings her sweet, goofy charm to every session, but we are seeing incredible progress in her emotional regulation and mature decision-making. Here is a look at the results from her recent training:
* Calm Coexistence: She is successfully holding “place” right next to another dog with a completely relaxed body. She is learning she can share space and feel safe without feeling the need to react.
* Real-World Focus: We intentionally practice during busy evening hours to simulate real-world distractions. Instead of escalating at extra foot traffic or noise, she stays under threshold, checks in, and looks for guidance. That is confidence in action.
* Trust & Desensitization: She is understandably sensitive about her feet, so we are taking it slow and pairing gentle handling with high-value rewards. Confidence is also about learning that slightly uncomfortable things are not so scary after all.

Safe dog introductions are about so much more than just letting dogs meet. They’re an opportunity to teach confidence, neutrality, appropriate communication, and impulse control in a structured environment.

During our training programs, carefully selected introductions allow dogs to practice being around other dogs without feeling like they have to immediately play, greet, bark, or react. For some dogs, success may look like appropriate play. For others, it may simply mean calmly sharing space and choosing to disengage.

These controlled experiences also give our trainers the opportunity to read body language, respect boundaries, and help each dog build positive associations at their own pace.

The goal isn’t for every dog to love every dog. It’s to help them develop the skills to safely and confidently navigate a world where other dogs exist.

Reactive dog training isn’t about forcing a dog to “just get over it.” It’s about building trust, creating structure, and teaching them how to make calmer choices.

Chevy is a great example of what that process can look like. During his Board & Train program, we focused heavily on relationship building, obedience, impulse control, and helping him become more comfortable with everyday handling.

From calmly accepting grooming and collar adjustments to improving his place work and leash skills, Chevy learned that structure and cooperation can make the world feel a lot more manageable. We even introduced treadmill work to provide structured exercise while building focus and confidence with something new.

For reactive dogs, progress is built one successful experience at a time. Chevy put in the work, and we loved watching his confidence and trust grow throughout his time with us.
