Is live rock or dry Rock better for your saltwater aquarium? Both are viable options, it just depends on your style. Live rock comes with everything, the good and the bad. Dry rock comes sterile and you get to control what goes into it but it takes a lot longer to seed. We like to use dry rock because we like the control and the ability to hardscape easier. But I'll be honest, It's really cool to see the mystery of what comes in a piece of live rock.

Zoanthids can kill. They produce a palytoxin, which is an extremely powerful non-protein poison they use for defense in the wild. In reality, they're pretty safe in the aquarium. Just always wear gloves, masks and eye protection when handling them and never brush or boil them outside of the aquarium.

One of my favorite things about aquariums is their ability to scale as you learn more. Start off with simple equipment and simple livestock, then as you gain knowledge and confidence, upgrade your equipment as you go. Before long, you'll find yourself automating dosing, water changes, frozen food, and testing, making your life a lot easier.

Always quarantine your fish and coral before they enter your display. Our new fish and coral go through quarantine before they enter a client’s display. We treat a new arrival like a hospital intake, observed and treated in isolation for two weeks, so one fish never puts an entire system at risk. Is keeping a reef aquarium difficult? The short answer is it doesn't have to be. If you're starting off, stick with a tank size between 40 and 100 gallons, choose simple organisms that don't require a complex environment, and only take on what you know about, but be ready to learn as much as you can. As you learn and grow in the hobby, you'll quickly upgrade your setups and your organisms before you know it.

It's okay if you don't know everything when it comes to your aquarium. Curiosity is just as important as knowledge. Asking questions and using the scientific method to stay curious and learn more is the best way to be successful with your aquarium. It's okay if you don't know everything. Just stay curious and keep asking questions.
