Hump Day!

With the upcoming breeding season getting closer, here’s a look at what African fat tailed gecko breeding can look like!

Much like leopard geckos, African fat tailed geckos display specific courtship behaviors. Males will often begin by vibrating their tails, approaching the female, and gently nipping along her body.

If the female is receptive, she’ll typically remain relatively still and allow the male to continue until the pair successfully locks and mates. If she isn’t receptive, she may move away, vocalize, bite, or display defensive behavior.

Breeding should always be monitored closely, and animals should be separated if either becomes overly stressed or aggressive.

Successful breeding starts with healthy, mature animals, proper preparation, and understanding their behavior!

I’ve been crossing some tangerine Tremper line for a project a few years now. This year we’ve popped out three or four BOLD STRIPES from the project. You never know what could come out. Every year there’s a surprise in the hatchlings! And might the surprise be a new endeavor?
