It’s a week of celebrations! Depending on where you’re located, you may be celebrating Canada Day (July 1) or Fourth of July this Friday (U.S.).

🎆As fireworks displays, cookouts/barbecues and parades are underway, make sure your pet’s safety and comfort are top priorities for your celebrations!

👇PSI encourages pet parents and pet professionals to keep these tips in mind:

✅ Keep pets inside during celebrations (+ close all doors and windows and play the tv or calming music for your pet).
✅ Make sure your pet wears an identification tag and that your microchipping records are up to date with your current contact information.
✅ Watch out for unsafe foods and decorations, and make sure your guests know not to feed your pets.
✅ Use the services of a professional pet sitter if you’ll be away from home.

ALERT: COOK COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL & RABIES CONTROL | RABID BAT

On September 6, 2022, a bat was found in the vicinity of the 12900 block of Archer Avenue, Lemont, Illinois. It was submitted for rabies examination. The bat was determined to be rabid by the Illinois State Public Health Laboratory. If you were exposed or bitten by a bat, contact your doctor.

All residents should keep their dogs, cats, and ferrets on a leash when out of their homes. If your animal does not have a current rabies vaccination, have the pet immediately inoculated with rabies vaccine.

You are advised not to handle any bats, skunks, or other wild animals. If any bats or skunks are found down or dead on your property or roadway, please call the Cook County Department of Animal Control at 708-974-6140.
